2004 Tracker 32 gal gas.

#1 Post by lakerunner » Wed May 12, 2010 10:38 am

My built in gas tank has been giving me fits. For over a year I have fought to keep my fuel line in prime. I blamed it on adding fuel water separator. Replaced fuel lines twice, primmer bulbs also a few times and still had problems.
Well I decided I must have an obstruction in gas take pick up so I removed gas lines and using compressor blow tip shot some air into the connector where I clamp fuel line.
BINGO I found the culprit, The connector has a check valve inside it and it was sticking. It would let fuel through then stick. I took the POS off and replaced with a connector without check valve. 3 pumps and ball is hard and stays that way.

So be aware of that if you ever have the same issues.

Are you talking about the aluminum connector on the tank ? If so, that's very common. The on-tank check valve on my old Proline did the same thing once. It seems Moeller tanks have issues with bad check valves.

could that cause the engine not to hit the proper RPM's?

Sometimes when they start to go bad they make a little noise. Hard to explain, but you shouldn't hear anything normally. If you have a portable tank, hook it up to the motor and run it. If it runs better, the valve could be bad or a restriction in the line itself.
