Chassis Ground

#1 Post by OlJim » Thu May 20, 2010 11:19 am

The previous owner installed a second battery and a battery switch. There is no wire going from the ground post to anything on the boat except the plug for the trolling motor. Can you use the boat frame as a grounding point like you do on an auto? There is a red wire going from the positive post to the battery switch. I have no power to anything other than the trolling motor plug when the switch is in the II position.

No frame grounds you don't want electric running through the frame, sounds like he was just using it for the TM but then why have the switch, you can just tie the gounds together on the batteries you could select either one to charge or run off of, the switch only switches the positive.

Thanks Herb. That's what I was thinking but wanted to make sure.
