Good day to all

As you can see I am in the process of building a trailer for a pontoon kit boat which is next on the list of to do's.
I am at the point of building the bunk posts and my question is what is the distance from the ground to the bottom of your pontoon when it is on your trailer.

I am worried about building them to high and end up haveing a problem with launching the boat.

I would suggest going to a dealer and taking your measurements. They seyy bunk brackets that are pre shaped and with the holes drilled to screw in the wood if you do not want to make your own.

Thanks for the link but I would rather build my own, by the way what is the pontoon to ground measurment of yours?

I have my boat 15 miles from here and I am not going out this weekend. I am sure someone else will chime in that has the boat at home. They are probably all out on this nice day with their boats and I am in the office.

I am somewhat in the same positions as you being the closest pontoon dealer is 25 miles from me and its a long weekend up here.

But I can 1 up your working at the office day as I have a cold beer in my hand.

Mine is at 22in at the axle to the bottom of the pontoon, I don't have bunks I have rollers

Well after spending several hours with pencil and paper along with nurerous amounts of cardboard cut outs I have come up with a hieght of 27" from ground to bottom of pontoon.
I purchased my 3500 axel with 2 of ST205/75R15 rim/tire assembly, so I could return them and switch to a 13" rim and reduce the height a bit but should I?

Is 27" too high?

I have 13's and will measure today.

Here's my opinion for what little its worth. I've been to and used boat ramps that were so steep and deep three feet would not have been to much "or high". But I've also used ramps that were so shallow that I've had the rear axle and exhaust submerged to get the trailer and boat deep enough to launch or retrieve. If it were me I'd attempt to somehow get it lower if it were at all possible.

I have tandem trailer and use a low profile 10 ply 20.5X8.0-10 hi speed trailer tire. Much easiler to launch the boat even on shallow ramps.

I just put my boat in the lake today so I have a bare trailer. With 13" tires and 3" of free space between top of tire and fender it is 28.5 " to the bottom of the pontoon. This is a tandem axle Tracker trailer. Since boat is new to me this was first launch and all went well.

Put it as low as possible and still clear the tires. Make sure your trailer frame goes all the way to the back of the logs so if anything drags it will be the frame and not the logs. I consider trailer fenders to be in the way and if necessary I cut them off. I special ordered a new toon trailer recently without fenders. Weld your spring hangers on a piece of angle iron so that you can slide the axle to properly balance the trailer when loaded for a trip.

For those of you that are curious it will be Starburst yellow just like the color of the pontoons.
The pontoons are made of polyethylene.
