Time to get the toon on the water and I need to do an oil change.
I know the manual says to go with honda oil but man that stuff is spendy. I'm considering a good quality car/truck oil instead.
Any thoughts?

Very interesting question and one which will no doubt elicit many opinions but know this: Honda does not make motor oil. Never has and in all likelihood, never will. Honda motor oil is made by Exxon/Mobil. All Honda does is contract with Exxon/Mobil to produce the product and slaps their label on the stuff and marks it up. That having been said, I like AMSOIL although it too is pricey but if you go to their web site,
www.amsoil.com, you'll see why.

Motorcycle oil is used in motorcycles because it has no friction mod's and is o.k. to use with the clutches on them.
4 cycle oil used in a honda, toyota, chevy, ford, chrysler all should be o.k. for use in your 4 cycle outboard motor. We could get into a pissing match on oil and gas and bottled water but it's not worth it. I like Lakerunner use Castrol 10w30 and 5w30 depending on what it is going in.
