New guy with purchase question

#1 Post by TX0303 » Tue May 25, 2010 2:29 pm

Hello all, first time poster. I have been shopping for a used toon and found one I like. It's a Smoker Craft 22', one of their fish and cruise type layouts. The only drawback is it has a 1998 75hp Force OB on it. I know Force is no longer made so would it be a good idea to purchase this boat?
Would you think that 75hp is enough to pull an adult, say 175 lbs, on a tube with 3 adults onboard? This boat has 23" tubes and aluminum under-skin.

Merc bought out Force (Chrysler) and still have some parts available. If price is low enough and motor runs well then buy it and re power later. As far as pulling you on a tube well yes it will but you might fall asleep with boredom instead of thrills

Welcome and good luck.

Thanks for the info. I talked to the seller again and he says with just him, he only gets 18mph on the GPS. That and that some of the vinyl is cracked, I think I'll pass on it.

Probably a good idea, force motor an some cracking vinyl. Usually that little cracking turns into a real problem shortly down the road. The right one is out there, ya just have to find it....
