Trailer wiring

The wiring on my truck is a 4 wire flat and the pontoon trailer has a 5 wire flat. I have pulled the unit three times now and I swear my brakes are working on the trailer. I read that the extra blue wire on the flat 5 enables the breaks to disengage when backing up. I do not have an issue with the breaks locking up. Now I purchased a Hopkins adapter " 4 wire flat to a 5 wire flat. It states it is a simple process that takes less then 5 minutes. Ya okay. The blue wire is suppose to be hooked up to my back up lights. Here goes. What wire is that? I have a 1994 F-150. I suck at anything that involves electrical.

If you have surge brakes yea then that's what it for to keep the brakes from locking while you back up.
You have a single wire going to the clear backup light trace it to a place you can put a spice in it

I have the same setup on my '99 F-150. Get a test light, take off one the rear stop/turn light assemblies. Apply the parking brake, put the gear shifter in reverse. Test for power at the back up light bulb and that's where you hook the blue wire too. I forget what color wire it is....been to long, sorry.

general motors uses light green for backup and dark green for right turn I'm also not sure about ford but it might be a place to start. I't not a deal breaker on the reverse lockout tho as long as you dont have to back uphill most surge brakes have a lockout on the coupler to lock it in place to backup just dont forget to release it when you head out on the road.
