Size of hand winch

I am just doing the final touches on my DIY pontoon trailer and was looking for some advice on which would be the best for me.
The pontoon is a 19' that at the moment I do not know what it weighs exactly but I am comfortable with the number 2000 lbs.

The winch tower I have made will accept any type or size of winch whether it be a hand or electric, do I consider one with a brake?

What are you using?

Unless you plan to winch it on the trailer a standard Wally World single gear will do just fine. Otherwise there are gear reduction winches that will drag it onto trailer from ground

When I am done with this trailer I am expecting that all I have to do is point the boat in the direction of the trailer and it would just load itself.

But for those times it doesn't I want a winch that will work more than me.

Looks like some nice handywork.
I just got rid of my winky single speed winch and went with a 2 speed hand cranker by Dutton Lainson. I am really impressed with mine. Those guys have TONS of choices on US made winches.

Once I made my decision (2500# 2-speed with strap), I shopped around and was surprised to see that Cabelas was my best price. About $100 to my door.

Here's the linky: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... 23&Go.x=22

Here's a quick update

I remembered what I said the first time I painted a trailer yellow, it takes at least 3 coats for it to cover properly and yes it is a bit bright. On the bright side :lol3 I am doubtful that trailer will be stolen.
Starburst Yellow

I am going with a 2000lbs winch.

So is your Toon yellow too? If so, that will look pretty cool, and you will definitely be easy to spot in the lot at the ramp. :nana

Yes they are but not as bright, I am hoping after a couple of coats it will be a bit darker. Those picture were of the first coat on a grey primer which I think will make it look brighter.

Time will tell.

Just pennies short of a thousand but thats everything right down to the UHMW bunk strips with the only exception of a spare tire.
I thought I wait to get one until the boat is ready as it is a kit pontoon boat which is the next project.
