Bimini Pary Lights???

#1 Post by HHbassman » Sun Jun 06, 2010 8:08 am

I'd like to be able to hang some party lights (little LED Amber?) from the Bimini top for hanging out at night at the dock. Figure that a 12 volt or battery solution may be better than solar. There are a zillion websites selling lights but nothing I can find looks like a great solution. I have a 9 ft bimini, so figure I need about 35 ft of lights with a 6 foot lead if 12 volt. no lead if battery. Anyone have a solution or preferred website to acquire party mood lighting?

Thanks,
-Herb

I'd go with Ed's design....

After all, we all know what kind of tail you can pull with lights like those. :devillol :devillol :devillol :alright

Very cool Ed. Thanks for replying. I was picturing stringing them around the whole top, but your'e config looks great and doesn't require going around the outer rectangle. Are those rope lights or individual lights(Christmas tree style) and do they plug into a 12v receptacle? I can't tell where they are plugged in from the pix.

They are 12 volt LED rope lights. The Party Cruiser's courtesy light wiring is under the lounge seat, so I tapped into that. So all I have to do is flip a switch :)

For the rear sleeping area, I tapped into the head (bathroom) lighting fixture for power and ground there, and added a toggle switch. The lights came with instructions and markings as to where they can be cut.

I have NO courtesy lights on my entire boat. I'd love to get something under the seats at the very least.

After seeing Ed's setup, I'm now looking for a 25ft Amber Rope Light, but would like it with the cigar lighter adapter attached, so we can just throw them up around the Biminy frame on the few times we're out at night. I'm seeing lots of custom kits, but still haven't found the Big Red Easy Button solution. Surfing time has been minimal, maybe by this weekend.

Last year, I grabbed 30ft of white rope lights from Wal-Mart's Camping/Outdoor section. They have a long outlet cord on them, I believe Coleman makes them. They were about $14, they had them again this year. We have a double bimini so we just plug them into the dock or lighter adapter and run them over the supports from front to back on the boat. Provides a ton of light.
