It has a max HP rating at 125hp and they only install a 25hp ?, I will tell you if this boat gets into a head wind it might not move, I know this because my 18 footer has a 30hp and it runs good with 2 people but when I have 4-5 it runs slow, but a 25hp on a 40ft houseboat ain't going nowhere in a head wind.. Better stock a lot beer...

Restricted horsepower lake. It's only 1350 acres. 30hp for houseboats, 10hp for everything else. If the wife and I move to the Kentucky Lake area like we want to, I'll definitely be upping my motor.

I like it. I can see myself retiring on something like that. As for the motor, build in a 50 gal tank and I'll be cruising the intercostals’ waterway for a month w/o a fill up. A 25hp should get ya 6 or 8 mph which is troller speed and those things cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Add a generator and a solar panel or two with a bank of batteries and its game on. Of course, direct TV is a given.

It's not a place you'll find luxury houseboats, but they do have fun!
