I am ordering a 22ft. Bennington 2274GLI Triple toon performance package. & I am wondering about cost vs speed between 150hp & 225hp o/b. What kind of top speed should i expect from each motor? What do you guys think about the boat? What are the best options that i should get with it? Thanks ahead of time, my 1st time here.

it depends where you're going to use it and what you'll do with it.
22' is a shorter boat so both are plenty of motor, unless you'll
be on big water or need to pull a bunch of wakeboarders.
top speed only matters in a storm on a big lake.

I have a 2010 2275RLI with the ESP. It is powered by a 150 Yamaha. When I priced mine the 225 that I had in mind was almost 6K more than the 150. I get with 2 people 38/39 gps. If you plan on alot of folks and weight the 225 may be better for you. We had a larger group with us a few weeks ago and it takes longer if you want to go faster but with our group we were just talking and enjoying the ride at about 22 cruising. I have no experience with the 225 but the 150 is very quiet! At idle you can not hear it running. It is also very good on fuel. Hope that helps. Good luck! Bill

I have a 2250 rcw Bennington with the ESP, I did upgrade from the 150 to the 200 ( a $4k upgrade ), it has plenty of power and I am pushing 48-49 for a top speed , keep in mind you are also going to need to get the power steering option which is another $2k, was it worth it ? I dont know but like most here I would rather have to much than not enough power.

I am at 40 with my 150. You probably will have to go to power steering with the 225. The sea star will get you by with the 150. What is max hp rating for the boat? Might look into the cost of the 175. Know the merc pro xs is suppose to put out more hp than stated on the cowl.
You looking at 2 or 4 stroke. Most 4 will be a little heavier. My guess on the 225 with the right prop is high 40's to low 50's

Sounds like it will be a great boat. Need to remember to factor in delivery charge an the fact your dealer may be hundred of miles away. Probably no problem with the motor but not sure about the boat warranty locations or how that may work. Seems like there is always something not quite right with new boats.

Thanks Doc, the delivery cost is about $1k. and there is a bennington dealer near by for warranty work. I did go to them with the price that i have, just to try and get it from them and create a relatioship with them. But they wanted about $9k more for the same setup.

Another thing i am planning to add to the boat is a full camper closer. any ideas?

Thanks

Good luck getting it built - perhaps in 4 to 6 months. Take any build date you get and add 3 months to it. Also don't expect any straight answers from Bennington as to delivery date. They won't return your calls.

Other than that I hear the boats are great.

no man ever said, "gosh, i wish it was smaller"

enjoy. for that coin, they need to make it perfect. one thing i've told my self is that if i ever bought new, i'd pop for the double bimini. with a 225 on that size you shouldn't lose much speed with that large of a sail up.
