Well.. I bought my first ever pontoon boat Thursday. ( first ever boat period actually) and I know where are the pics!! Sorry, I have not been able to get them on here as I am doing this from my work computer.
I have been looking all around this forum to see how to polish the toons, I know it is here but I must be looking over it. Would someone mind either showing me the link or even better tell me how they do it.
Much appreciated.

Start with sandpaper 220 if really bad and go to 2000, then your start with the buffer and rubbing compound, then go to the aluminum polish kit with rouge and the finer compounds.
I know I have all of them laying around in the shop some where, but got mine at harbor fright with some buffing wheels

First be prepared for some work. Time depends on the shape of the toons to start. You will need a buffer just to make things go quicker. The wet dry paper is a good place to start. Most auto stores carry a pack of multi grit 400 to 1000. One thing to remember polishing will bring out blems you can't even see now. I have tried a lot of polishes in the past but sharkhide works the best an is the fastest. Use lacquer thinner to remove the black residue. Polishing will make them look like chrome but if you just want a sheen, something like sos and scotchbrand pads will do that with a little less work. Work in a small area at first, just in case you decide not to go with the polish. I have polished two, although the 2nd went much faster, it is a big job.

Everyone has a way they like best and mine is all by hand. A little trick to getting all the black residue off the tunes is have some general purpose flour from the kitchen and put on a rag to wipe the excess black off. Good luck.

Does make the pontoon look newer and faster
And it still doesn't look bad 5 years later, cleaning them when I got it home with soap and water.

Will try that next time. When I used up my old lacquer thinner, went out to get another gallon, an cost 14 bucks or so. The one I used up still had the 8 dollar sticker on it. Seems like they raised the price when gas went to almost 5 bucks a gallon but didn't adjust it down once the priced dropped. Works great but pricey now.

if ya live near the border i bet a couple of illegal aliens could shine them up for ya.
but not if you live in that inland state of arizona, according to the dumbass country supervisor in milwaukee.
shining toons is a shitload of work that never ends.
