Ok it is my first post regarding my first pontoon. I bought a 1999 Suntracker with a 40HP merc two stroke. Motor runs great but, it is way under powered. The boat is a 21 ft party barge. I happend on to a 1997 90hp honda today on a hurricane boat. the boat and motor are low hour units. My question is is 5300.00 for the pair high priced. I am going to obviously pull the 90 off and put it on my pontoon and put the 40 on the hurricane. I would really love to have a 90 hp etec? What are your thoughts?

The E-Tec is or would be a very good choice for you but could be a lot more costly for you. Just the 90 HP EVINRUDE E-TEC is $7,300 by itself at Ed's, and it's unlikely you'll be able to match his prices in your locality.
Whereas the Honda is also a hard motor to "beat". Honda's are reliable, fuel efficient, and extremely quiet in operation. If you were to "harvest" the Honda and then repackage and sell the Hurricane you could end of with a very good low hour motor for just a few thousand verse the 10 thousand you'd have in the E-Tec.
Personally I'd buy the Hurricane switch the motors and flip it for what I could get out of it and enjoy the Honda.

Ok where is Ed's. I am very partial to the ETec. I am going to buy the Hurricane. I also have a 2003 Merc 4 stroke with controls that I am going to put on the Hurricane.

It's a steal, buy it. Watch out for Eds, I've never heard anything but bad on them. Also my guess is that the Etec would be nothing but a bare motor, no controls,no prop and no guages. You might check to see if the warranty would be good without it being installed by qualified people. All the people that are giving prices on the Hondas don't tell you where you can get one at their prices.
