Pontoon Boat & Deck Boat Forum

Howdy boys ( and girls ) Me and the wife took our toon out Friday for about 4 hours of fishing and had a great time. As those of you who read this forum with any regularity, you are aware that I'm kinda new to boating in general, and my biggest issues with "tooning" are launching and loading. And from spending some times at local boat launches, I know that I am not alone here. With that in mind I have come across a couple of items that I think "may" help me with both issues.. Saw a guy at the launch this afternoon who had guide posts ( 48" white posts ) sticking up on each side of his trailer. Told me they were great in helping him line up his boat.. also, while at Bass Pro shop this weekend, I came across an item called "Glyde Sticks". White plastic strips that screw right in to the carpeted bunks. Reviews I read on line at bass pro's web site were really complimentary of them. so:

1- what do you guys think of Guide posts ( pros and cons if any )

2- Your thoughts on these "glyde sticks'

3- Being plastic, can they damage your pontoons...

4- About how many packages of of these guide sticks would I need for a trailer that carrys a 20 foot toon?


By the way we used a new launch friday, smaller place, but seemed to be alittle deeper, got off the trailer with no problems, and only had to back off and re-load one time when putting the toon back on the trailer to go to the house.

Hope you all are having a safe holiday weekend. Put my boat in the shop saturday for her 10 hour service. We fished from the bank today... let's just say I miss my boat.

Take a look at the "recovering bunks" post. I'm guessing you'll spend as much or more on the slides as the bunk caps. For us, the plastic has made loading and unloading much easier.

I have considered the bunk caps, and maybe one or two slides towards the ends of my bunks just because my toon tends to stick a little to the back end at times, even if I dip it first. Let me know what you think once you have them installed.
