I am wondering how many people there are on the boat when people are giving there top speed. I had my 20 ft Benny with ESP and a yamaha F150 up to 36 with 4 adults, 3 kids, 2 coolers and the Bimini up in 90 degree weather in heavy chop. Is that good? I am seeing alot of high top speeds listed and am curious as to the conditions under wich the speed was achieved? I hit 5800 Rpm and the 36 mph quick.

So a 4 to 5 mph difference with no one elso on board. That was what I was thinking. So I could probably hit 41 with just me on board. Interesting to compare.

1Roadking... I've got a bennington 20 SFi with a yamaha 75 four stroke. I've only checked my speed once via gps... 3 people on board, cooler, usual stuff... water was fairly choppy, got 23 mph. The two passengers with me were sitting up in the front fishing chairs, have been told that had then been sitting further back and the water a bit more smooth, I would probably hit 25 to 26... Not an issue for me 'cause I still can't find the

brakes

i have 25 in logs and underskinning-hit 27 yesterday with just me in the boat--hit 30 last spring but usually 29 in the winter.
will hit 21-22 with 8-10 adults and kids usually.
running a 13 x 16 prop and am right on max rpm and will hit rev limiter if not careful--thinking about a tad more pitch or cupping the prop. Seems like above 5000 rpm i may be spinning a bit and not moving much water. hope this helps

Our 23 ft princecraft with 2 adults and two dogs, cooler, fishing gear and full tank of fuel averages 25-26 MPH. The motor is a 115HP 4 stroke Merc. With 4 adults, two dogs, coolers and fishing equipment it goes down to 22-23. I think that is not bad for a pontoon.

1roadking, that is very good with your rig.
We have a Sweetwater 2186 tritoon with a yamaha 115, 17 pitch aluminum prop, lifting strakes, and with just two of us and about half a tank of gas on average condition water we go at about 37 but have to watch the rpms as it was matched by the dealer for a 19 pitch prop to be between 5800 to 6000 rpms. When we run that prop we can get 41, and those speeds are by gps.

Well.... top speed is just that, the fasted speed that your boat will run. That is usually with a light load, top down, good water, etc. Speed should be measured with a GPS. My 21 ft toon will run 38MPH GPS @ 5800 RPM with my Turning Point prop (13.25 X 17) and 37 MPH GPS @ 6000 RPM with the repaired Solas that I keep as a spare. This is with 90 HP, approx. 15 -20 gallons of gas and just me on board.
The boat will run in the low 30's with six adults on board (plus cooler, plus spare prop and tools, plus trolling motor & top up) and is on the strakes at 23 MPH with four adults on board.
1roadking, your toon performs very well ... take it out on a speed run and let us know what it will do.

THANKS FOR THE INFO. I ALWAYS LIKE TO COMPARE THINGS AND SEE HOW I COMPARE. MY FUEL MILEAGE IS CRAZY GOOD. IN ABOUT 12-13 HOURS OF RUNNING TIME I USED ABOUT 20 GALLONS OF FUEL. GRANTED 3 HOURS OF THAT WAS PROBABLY NO WAKE, BUT I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY HIGH AND MY PROP WAS BANGED UP FOR THE SPEEDS AND FUEL MILEAGE POSTED. I AM SUPER IMPRESSED WITH THE PERFORMANCE. THE STRAKES PICK IT RIGHT UP OUT OF THE WATER AND IT TAKES WAVES LIKE A 27-30 BOW RIDER.

sdbusa, do you have lifting strakes? Probably about right if you have standard logs.

Well this last week, with my bimini up, I took out 5 average adults, 5 kids, a FULL ice chest (man that sucker was heavy), a full tank of gas (45 Gal), and 2 anchors that total 50 Lbs and got up to 34 MPH. Once I hit some decent chop my speed dropped dramatically to around 20 MPH. On my best day I've hit 42 with a half tank of gas, three adults, and the top down.

We had nine big adults, 3 loaded coolers plus 2 ottoman coolers full and a full tank (35 gal) on July 4th. Our top speed when pulling the Big Mable with two of the lighter folks was 26 mph gps @ 6200rpm. With just two on board, bimini up and half gas, we have touched 43 mph @ 6200rpm. Solas ss14.25x17 prop, Yamaha 225 4 stroke, 25' tritoon w/6 big strakes. Just some numbers to compare.
