Pontoon Boat & Deck Boat Forum

I plan to trade in our deck boat for a performance toon. My garage is just short of 20'. Allowing for a motor and split tongue, at most I can accommodate is probably an 18 foot. The problem is that as yet I have not been able to locate one such. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have enough vertical clearance? I know, I can't even get a foot of my toon in the garage. You may be talking about a detached garage with something like a boat door. I have seen some trailers with swing away tongues.

Thanks doc: I have a std garage that is 7' high. If the tri-hull trailer renders the unit too high, I will have to modify that. Even if I find an 18' long unit, I will need a break-away tongue. So I can look forward to some engineering mods. geo

Yep, just wanted to point that out. I noticed on my first toon while working on it in the driveway, the top sundeck was a good bit higher than the top of the garage door. I just keep mine on the side of the house covered.

Doc: Our cabin is close to Canada. Lots of snow and cold. Mice are bound to take residence. I just competed a lean-to structure on the side of garage. While the space will accommodate a sailboat... certainly not a toon. Meanwhile I search for a 18 foot tri-hull. May end up storing elsewhere and shrink-wrapping. geo

When looking you will need a tape measure, the reason is just because it says its a 18 foot does not mean its 18 foot, my 18ft bass buggy has 19 foot pontoons plus the motor goes back another 1-1/2 foot.

My guess is that you will need a 16 footer to fit in garage once you add the motor and such, if you have room in your yard or side of garage than you should buy a boat that you will be happy with not just because it fits your garage. [my 2 cents]

This is not only my first adventure with toons, but my first attempt working out my problem using a forum. After looking at the top of line boats like the Manitou, the logoboats look spartan... and detract from the "cocktails in the sunset" image that my wife and I (wrongly or rightly) have. I agree that picking a boat that fits in my garage ... but falls way short of being what we want in features is a poor trade. As I write this, I'm coming to the conclusion to spend a little more of my kid's inheritance and pay for off site storage. Thank you all for your advice and counsel. geo

I agree with everything that has been said. You will want to measure the actual boat, as they are rarely the exact lenght stated on the model number or description. Mine for exaple is a 26' islander, but the actual boat is more like 25' long.

Also, I would think you will be very hard pressed to find a 18 foot or smaller tri-toon. I was thinking that you could only get a tri-toon in a 24' or larger platform from the factory. I would do like stated above, and look for a boat that you will be happy with, and pay for off site storage, or create your own storage for it. A good carport and some moth balls / dryer sheets should do the trick for keeping you covered and rodent/bug free.

GXP: As I shared earlier, I have resigned myself to storing boat off-site. BTW, tnx for the tip abt moth balls and drier tissues. It is worth a try. geo
