righting a wrong!

#1 Post by ROLAND » Sat Jul 24, 2010 10:10 pm

Hello boys, just wanted to drop a quick line to say my boat dealer righted a wrong for me today. A couple of weeks back I had our boat in the dealership for her 10 hour service, while there I noticed a low tire on my trailer and asked them to check it for me. well they did, they even aired it up, but then charged me $25 for it. I didn't realize the charge was on there til I got home later that night and was looking over the bill. I was pissed.. don't get me wrong, not a tight wad by any stretch of the imagination, but 25 bucks for "air"... come on! Called the dealership the next monday, talked to the service guy, told me he would get back with me... guess what? never heard from him again.. Anyway at the same time I picked up my boat ( but before I realized I got hammered for "air" ) I also ordered a set of 48" trailer guides... they came in and I went over there to pick them up but I still wasn't done with this air charge... went to service guy, asked him about the charge and he told me it was "correct". I can feel my ears getting red and I "politely" tell him that was ridiculous. :x I then talked to a guy in the parts dept. and when I explained things to him, he took the 25 bucks off the costs of the trailer guide.... and I appreciate the fact the guy righted the wrong, but it never should have happened to begin with. Think about it, 25 for air at one of the biggest dealerships in the area with several million dollars of boats in inventory.. not to mention that in the last 2 years my son and I have both purchased our boats from them... damn man, if your gonna :censored me, then at least kiss me. It took a little bitchin, but I got my money back.. I know, it sounds petty, but it just got under my skin ( can you tell . :lol3 )

I was having trouble fueling my Tracker (still do). Have to hold nozzle up or it clicks off and does some while holding it up. Anyway I took it to dealer to check. Warranty covered the check( they said it was ok) but they charged me 30 dollars to put 5 dollars worth of gas in. Glad I never had a warranty issue or any other problems.

Roland,

It's great you got a $25 credit on your purchase. The sad part is the credit came from the parts dept and not the service dept. Sounds like you'd been screwed if you hadn't bought anything. Once again, there are plenty of competitors out there for everything on the market. Personality, I would have told them to stick the bunks. Tell them why and do business where they understand the importance of customer service.

I always do a running total in my head when shopping an if the total at the register is not within a few bucks, I question it. Been trying to get the wife to do this but pretty much have given up. She will throw something in the buggy an I will say how much was that? She doesn't know if it was 5 dollars of 500. Tried telling her sometimes people make honest mistakes. I don't always go for the cheapest price items but I do want to know what I paid for the items. Okay end rant. Guess the bottom line is if you don't question charges, you feel are out of line, you will get beat, which ranks right up there with someone coming up trying to screw with me for no reason.

I've been in more repair shops in the Pacific NW than most. I've NEVER heard of anyone charging to check air pressure. Can You imagine the perceived value a customer would feel with a bill that showed, "check tire air pressure, $25. /no charge". A customer that leaves happy. stays happy......and tells others :!: ( a business idea from someone without a masters)

$25 for air? :?

Sounds like something Obama would do, while spinning it as racist not to pay it, and somehow convince 50 million idiots he's correct in doing so.... :leghump :gay :eviltaunt :happy

If they will charge you for something illegitimate, what are they doing to you on legitimate items?

That's an excellent question TT. There isn't any justification for doing business like that.
