Starting with Muffs

Well, since the weather was horrible this weekend we were unable to take the boat out, and since it has not been started in two weeks I hooked up the muffs an hour or so after I changed the Gear oil. I started the motor and everything was find I let it idle for a few minutes while I cleaned up. I then started to notice after about 5 or 6 minutes of running that it started to smoke a bit, I was just wondering if this was normal at all or if there is any reason to worry.
The Gas that is in it has been in there for about 2 weeks just sitting, I dont know if that has anything to do with it, but I think its worth the mention

More information would be of help. Engine year, make, and hp. Where was the smoke coming from? Smoke color?

50 hp Merc 2000. The smoke was white, and I cant really tell you where it was coming from, I cut the motor off when I saw it

Did you have a good sream coming out the pee hole. Most likley just exhaust smoke. I would not worry.

Are you sure that it wasn't steam? If you started your motor cold it would take a few minutes before it got up to operating temperature at which time the thermostat would open and allow steaming hot water out the exhaust hub.

There was steam, however there was smoke also. Its not like there was tons of smoke it was actually kinda hard to tell what was steam and what was smoke. When I seen the smoke I just turned the motor off I just wanted to make sure it wasnt something major.

Would sure help if members would add to the signature line the make and type of motor and boat you have. We can't remember if you have a 2 or 4 stroke or I/O

Now that helps. Normal for some smoke at idle or low speed. That's the nature of a 2 stroke

Thats good information to know, which is why I love to ask you guys questions on here. I probably would always be turning my motor off once it started smoking forever.

I think we need to get this "muff" person in touch with the person who's having a hard time starting his "johnson". Seems like a perfect match to me.
(The two threads are next to each other at this moment)

Unless we are talking about huge amounts of smoke or the water was not flowing in the muffs it is normal. I have the 06 merc and it smokes too on muffs.
