Cleaning mold off seats

#1 Post by Ron Burgundy » Thu Oct 21, 2010 11:43 am

What is the best way to clean mold off seats? I bought some stuff at Wall Mart, and it didn't do a thing so I returned it. My father in law said to use diluted bleach. Does this work? :drink4

The problem with bleach is it dries out the vinyl. Once it takes hold it is nearly impossible to get out

NO NO on the bleach (even diluted). I have tried several marine products and the following worked best:

You can find it at West Marine and I think my wife even found it in the boat section of Academy Sports. I found this works best with a straight spray on and wipe off. Tried it with wasing seats first, then applying. Applying first then washing off. Spray on and rub off fairly quickly works!!!

Had a few areas I couldn't clean with the 303 cleaner so I tried Mold Armor.http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1 ... ogId=10053
The stuff I used didn't have the blocker an was just the cleaner. Must be pretty strong cause it worked very quickly. Might want to dilute it an just add cleaner till it works right for you. Make sure to rinse well an follow with 303 protectant.

Thanks for the recommendations. I knew bleach would get rid of the mold, but had a feeling it would be to harsh on the vinyl. I'll head over to my West Marine to see what I can find.

When I had a bad case a few months ago I tried many products with very little results. Then read about Magic Erasers and tried one. It was amazing!! Just dampen the eraser and lightly rub the surface and everything came to the top and wiped with a damp paper towel and it was clean. Big thumbs up on the Magic Eraser. :biggrin2

Bleach does not kill mold or algee, I send a good part of the year doing that on houses and docks.

I use Jo-Max, it kills the mold, from homo depot because no one else has it, mix it with bleach, bleach whitening the stain.

I have used it on my carpet many times, But can't say anything about the furnture as I threw mine away a long ago, and replaced it with heavy duty outdoor furnture, so I can remove it to have more deck space.

It had came close 2 times to having to serve as a gator catcher, and opens the deck to take the kids fishing.

I could never beleive that "Damprid" would work. Where does the water go that it removes?

It ends up in the bottom of the can where you can pour it out.

I would think the moisture content in the air would creat a number of gallons per day. especially in a warm summer climate. You would have to emty it very often.
