More on Anchors

#1 Post by Looney Tune » Wed Jan 19, 2011 12:48 pm

My new boat will not have a good spot to mount a windlass for an anchor. Have any of you used the back of the boat for your main anchor? I have room there to install a windlass. Will that make much of a differance? I think instead of the back of the boat swinging to the windward side the front of the boat will swing around. Am I correct?

using the back for anchoring even on a good day is a bad idea.

Bad idea to anchor ONLY from the stern. Using a stern anchor as a secondary to keep the stern from swinging around is fine though.

I drop one Dansford anchor where the back Fender is on this picture and tie one Navy anchor off at the front cleat same side. It seems to hold pretty good. Of course if it's windy I can't hold the boat. But if I'm persistent like wanting to fish. I just go to the other side of the Lake or go in to shore. I don't like being out if the waves are over a foot. The back fender is probably four foot up the toon from the actual rear edge of the deck.
