Pontoon Grilling

Update, used the search window and pretty much found what I was looking for.

New to pontooning here and wanted to get a few thoughts on adding a rail side grill to our pontoon. Is it worth the trouble? Are they easy to clean and keep up? Does anyone have experience with a grill that they have been happy with? I am still on the fence about the idea of adding a grill to the boat. I would appreciate any thoughts pro's/con's on adding a rail side or other location grill.

Thanks,
Sunfun

I had one for awhile that attached to the side gate. It was ok, but I still seemed to get sh!t all over the side of my boat from time to time. I'm sure it was due to operator error. Now, I carry a small portable one to cook on the beach with that I picked up at Wally World.

I have the Magma Party Grill. I love it. When we anchor somewhere I get so many people wanting to know where we got it. The smell of grilling on the water is awesome. :drool
When the grill is not in use, I just pull the pin and store it in the changing room.

i have one of those that mount on a post on the front of the deck. $100-$150. Sure beats a cold sandwich or PB&J out on the lake.i keep it stored under the steering console when not in use. clean up isnt to bad a keep a couple carpet squares under the grill when i use it.

In 1993 we bought a Suncruiser 240 Jamaica that came with a bow mounted gas grill (on a post). We were taking our first ride after having the boat delivered and I wanted to see how fast it would go. It only had a 115 Evinrude on the back end, but this was my first boat and I wanted to explore its limits.
We were going between 15 & 20 and it was a windy day. All of a sudden the grill comes off the post and in what seemed like slow motion, went flying by and dropped into abouth 40 feet of water!
I called the dealer and he asked if he had mentioned not to have it mounted on the post when going at speed. I told him if he had I wouldn't have had it mounted. He replaced the grill at no charge and I never put it on the boat again! When we sold the boat I gave it to the new owner.
Due to where we operate the boat (Lake of the Ozarks) there are plenty of places to stop and eat, so a grill was not even in our thought processes when we ordered our new Benni.

I use the pedestal type and love it. I will mess up the carpet a little but it cleans right up w/o much effort.

sling why don't you just use some aluminum foil or some of those disposable roast pans from the grocery store.♦

Thanks for all the replies. Grilling= (a gas grill to cook food) opposed to barbacueing where you use (charcoal to cook food). I am considering the Magma party grill. I like the idea of the grill hanging out over the water. A little spendy for a grill, however long term I think it will do the trick. The plus is that with propane gas you can really control cook time and have steaks or yard bird done right.

For what its worth...

Hi Dock: The carpet comes clean so easily that even a good rain will clean it off. The grill came with a little cup that hung below the grill"s drain hole but I think I lost that the very first day I used it. A disposable roasting pan w/ a hole cut through the middle for the post does sound like a good idea though.

yep think you can even use a soup can for a replacement. Those disposable roast pans can be handy. I even used one for portable grill a few times
