I figure I would try and get a compilation going of some good cleaning tips people have used.

I have used those Mr. Clean Erasers. They work wonders on getting mold and bug stains off vinyl and fiberglass.

Also use a pressure washer on the capets when they start to get grimy

303 protectant is good but I have also had pretty good luck with the prestone marine cleaner bought at china-mart...I mean wal-mart.


Never use Armor All !!! It will kill your vinyl even though it says its good for it, it removes vital lubricants.

LA's Amazing cleaner from dollor store is good but I think I prefer RollOff for black streaks and cleaning vinyl.

Like Awesome Cleaner and Super Clean, just have to watch the cut ratio on somethings. For painted surfaces, Meguiars Cleaner does well, haven't tried it on the black marks but bet it works good. WD 40 for removing road tar from the car.Word of caution on upholstrey, used about anything including Super Clean to clean the old toon.
Think that helped with it's demise although it was an 89 model. I will use nothing that harsh on the new one and probably something for upholstrey only such as the 303 cleaner.

Auto Geek.com has it and Boaters World and West Marine carries it. It was developed for convertible tops. It cleans very well and leaves behind a finish that will bead up. However I always follow with 303. Great thing it can be used straight or diluted. Aint cheep at about $22 a gallon

Yeah I swear by Totally Awesome Cleaner and 303. What's the best for removing mildew ? I have a bit of it under our mooring cover and the stern canvas.

Badmoon, try the Mr. Clean erasers. All they are is Microcellular foam. You use nothing but water and they scrub stuff off like crazy. Since nothing else is used except water, it very vinyl friendly.

One thing you dont want to do is sealoff the vinyl from breathing, this will cause rott and some cleaners actually break down the thread that holds everything together. I have heard Simple Green breaks the thread down. I wrote the simple green company about this concern and never got a reply to confirm or deny this.

Think the Super Clean will get rid of the mildew or Clorox bleach, the chlorine is what kills it,just have to watch the cut used, like I said it is pretty harsh though. That is why I used it on the old toon to kill the mildew. Most cleaners I have seen for removing mildew are pretty harsh, think if there was something you could put on after their use to restore the the oils and moisture might prevent cracking, like maybe baby oil, vaseline, etc.
Still the Super Clean and Awesome Cleaner are two of my favorite for tough jobs.....

I have not used LA Totally Awesome cleaner, but i can say that Roll Off has cleaned stains that Mr. Clean Erasers have not. I have not found alot that Roll Off can't clean.

Bleach doesn't kill algee, it just brightens it, you need a algee killer, I use jomax to kill mold and algee in Florida, you mix jomax with bleach to do the whole job, the jomax kills it and the bleach will get rid of the green.

I find jomax at homo depot in the paint department

I agree with the LA Totally Awesome cleaner. Best cleaner for the money I've ever seen. Emily swears by it for cleaning dog stains on the carpet.
