I'm Back....

#1 Post by ROLAND » Sat May 14, 2011 7:54 pm

Hey guys, back with you again.. first off, thank you for all the warm sentiments concerning my son's atv accident... Good news is surgery is over, and he's back up on his feet.... I talk about him like he's a kid but he's actually 27 years old. When I went to his apartment wednesday morning to take him to the hospital I couldn't believe what I saw... he came walking out, his right arm hanging at his side but with about a 30 degree angle right in the middle between the elbow and wrist. It was gross... surgery went well, plate, several screws and done. He was funny in recovery, when I went in the nurse was trying to wake him up and he cocked one eye open and in a "drunken slur" yells out at the top of his lungs,.... hey pop give me five!... the whole recovery room laughed. Surprisingly he asked the doctor if he could come home that same day and the doc said they prefer to keep him overnight for observation but if he was coming home with us and not going to be alone, they would release him... Tough kid, see there I go again, tough young man... he had alot of pain the first 36 hours but never complained... he went to the doctor yesterday for a follow up and again, first words out his mouth were " how long til I can get back in the gym and start lifting ? ".. my baby! again, thank you guys for all your concern.

Roland, Very glad to hear that your son is on the heal. I was worried about him cause of the pictures and mentions in your prior posts, I kind of felt like I knew him some.

Roland, glad to hear your son is doing well. Regarding the "kid" moniker. Regardless of their age, they're still your "Kid" for the rest of your life, no apology necessary.
Also, when you get to my age (almost 70), anybody under 50 is still a "kid"!

Roland, 27 days, 27 months or 27 years it doesn't matter. I'm sure you'd traded places with and taken the "bullet" if you could have. That's what being a dad is all about. Hope he heals up soon enough to enjoy the water with his family this summer :thumbsup

Glad to hear he is ok, ATV accidents can get ugly!

Sounds like me about 8 years ago. I had an ATV accident, try to climb a steep hill. It rolled over, I bailed the 4 wheeler missed me, but the back of my leg didn't miss the rocks. Should have had multiple stitches, but we were riding 150 miles from home and I didn't want to ruin everyone elses day. I did have a good first aid kit and cleaned it very well and it healed just fine. I've got a hell of a scar to show for it though. Looking back now, you just wonder why. We climbed so hills that were just stupid, the last 30' would be straight up. I guess it was the rush. I was young and dumb I guess.

Be careful out there!!!
