I had intended to post this at PDB last year. I uploaded it to my Photobucket and somehow, the series got buried in the 3000 pics I have there :D

This is more of what we need here. I will also do a winterizing pictorial (I have most of the pics ready).

Step one:

Find a suitable location that allows the easiest access to the filter. In my case is was next to the fuel tank on the port side.

Step 2:

Use the filter base as a template, and making sure the filter is mounted level, drill the mounting holes. Mount the filter base with stainless steel hardware:

Step 3:

Take note of the arrows on top of the filter mounting base, these indicate fuel flow direction:

Step 4:

Obtain the correct size fittings for your fuel line and install using teflon paste (do NOT use teflon tape). There are usually 4 fittings and the filter kit usually come with two plugs for the unused holes as shown:

Step 5:

Attach the fuel inlet and outlet hoses (again, be sure to install according to fuel flow direction-arrow in is from the fuel tank, arrow out is to carb). Use 2 hose clamps on each ... as per USGC code for fuel lines.

Step 6:

Start 'er up, carefully check for leaks.

Thats good Ed, I learned the hard way you must put it below tank level to work properly or in my case I did. With it above fuel tank I had to install a primer bulb ahead of filter to prime fuel line.

I have both of them installed this way on the PC and the Starcraft. Maybe I didn't have any issues because the mechanical fuel pump is larger on I/Os ?

I can see where it would be a problem installed like this with an outboard.

Why? What is the difference?

The instructions on the unit from Mercruiser says not to use teflon tape, doesn't explain why though. :?

I have seen Teflon tape dissolve in gasoline before though, they also have chemical reisistant (yellow colored) teflon tape, it's just takes longer to dissolve in gasoline.

I would assume that's why.

I just installed a brand new Kohler 20 HP engine in my lawn tractor and the instructions for the oil level monitor says the same thing, to use teflon paste and warns against using teflon tape.
