Seriously! I put a new one in last july or august had approximately 20 hours on it. So its been in 5 times since then inspected by 2 other merc dealers. So I have 750 bucks in diesel fuel invested this year! So I called the manufacture they said I have to take it to a premier verado service center I did! Let me say this 4/7/11 I had it where I bought it he inspected the water pump an said he wouldn't replace it in his boat an saw no reason I should in mine! So after I dropped of at the shop where they said I had to take it! They called asked what had been done told them they called back and say we fixed it was your water pump! An I owe 725.01 wtf no call? To ask first? Owe well I call manufacture argue with they say well they can rot over the winter? With 20 hours? Well basically the way I getting to feel with there warranty is if it breaks in half I get to keep both halves!

Are you boating in sand or water? 20 hours on a pump is crazy.

All clean lakes since changing pump got tired of them using the river as a crutch.
So I did last old one was fine last year an when I asked for parts this time they couldn't find it. Sat morning I called paid my bill so it would be out front an ready to go in case they closed before I got there. Well I made it, asked where my boat was she said down at the dock! I then asked where my trailer was she said she would find out I went an looked, my boat wasn't there. I went an told her she was confused they then figured out they screwed up. Then she argued me that I hadn't called nor paid! Well come to find out I paid for the guy at the dock what a joke!

Some dealerships are giving businesses a bad name, for sure. I would contact Mercury and remind them about all the bad press they are getting because of this dealership. Times are too tough right now for a manufacturer to put up with a dealer with a bad rep.

I believe know one at mercury cares! An what sucks with the flood I have had no opportunity to run it! Hopefully soon I can use it. Unfortunately its not on priority list to many people to help.

Send a link to this thread to the dealership, and any contact a Mercury you can fined and ask them to intervene on their own behalf. Ask them if Facebook with 500 million members is a big enough forum for their crappy service. Then again, the forum would be a great place to sing their praises if they step up to the plate. No joy, then nuke 'em here, FB, twitter, BoatUS magazine, iBoats, contacts at Playcraft, on and on.
Maybe that's why Playcraft features Honda power on their website now...

I haven't ran it yet. Unfortunately with all the flooding, next week I am moving it to a lake I did need a cool down time on it I did get raped on the water pump but before I stick my foot in my mouth I have decided to call one more time after it does it an then I will paint it everywhere I can if they can not put something together to resolve this issue.

Maybe they could explain why most pumps last 3 seasons or more? This is my 4th season (3rd Year) and 85 hours. I ordered a new pump but right now it is on the shelf as I have been too lazy to replace it and my original pump is running fine. Gauge shows the same water pressure as it did when I first dropped it in the water.

Considering that the impeller kit for the 300 Mercury Verado is $40 from the Veradoclubparts.com, that's insane. This very topic is on the other board on this forum. Mechanics who are thieves. Now granted, that 300's lower unit may be a bit larger to drop than your average 150 but not almost $700 worth of larger. How about giving up the name of that dealer/service center so the rest of the world knows about these folks?

Just did my own with factory parts for $98. Takes a hole hour, 2 if you have allot of problems. I would want to see a breakdown of cost. I could see a max of $300 at a dealer with the part.

I agree put the name of the Dealer and location on the forum here. It will serve notice to anybody in your area to stay away from this Dealer and place of Business.

$700 for a water pump / impeller.... that's crazy. I know the service dept's at the local boat dealerships push having them replaced yearly. At the end of my first season I took my boat in for service and they suggested a new water pump. Boat may have had 25 hrs on it. I declined.. will probably have it done at the end of this season since I'm using it alot more.. But even at that I think the dealership told me that with parts and labor, the bill for a new water pump was right around 200 bucks or so...that's for a yamaha 75 4 stroke. but hey, alot of dealerships will try to hook you... when mine was in for service at the end of the year i asked them to check the air pressure in my trailer tires as one looked kinda low. They did... and charged me 25 bucks ( 1/4 hour labor charge of 100 per hour ) to put air in a tire...You talk about one pissed off fat ass old man :box .... well, I digress....
