Best Grill for Pontoon
I'm looking for some people with experience using Grills made for pontoons to help me find a good one. I've used a wal-mart small gas grill one and it just isn't working out.
Ideally i'd like one that mounts to the rail or something.
Anybody have any good experience with one?

Re: Best Grill for Pontoon
We just had a thread on this exact subject, a week or two ago.
That being said, I'm just not crazy about the typical grills that mount to the top-rail of the boat. It MAY be because I have so much room on my boat, that I can set one up between the forward fishing chairs, and have 360 degree access. Do I use a greasy old portable grill though? No that would be way too easy! I have a custom made stainless fire-pit, with a 6 inch "banjo" burner (can you say 65,000 BTU's?). I had to go with a 0-40 PSI regulator on it. I generally use a 14" wok on it.

Well, no pics right now, but here's a link to the burner: http://www.bayouclassiccooking.com/6quo ... urne6.html Oh, and I guess the regulator is only 30 PSI: http://www.bayouclassiccooking.com/hiprreva.htmlWoody wrote:Let's see that bad boy !
When you close off the air control on the burner, you get yellow flames up to about 2 feet high.
With the air control closed down, it sounds like a jet engine, and actually warped the steel grill I originally had.
Now the "pit" started out as a Coleman Pack-Away portable fireplace grill: http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Pack-Away ... 452&sr=8-1
Here's what it looks like with charcoal in it:
It's 22" in diameter. And it hardly gets hot underneath at all with the propane burner.
That stainless steel bowl was a killer to drill and cut for the banjo burner!

Re: Best Grill for Pontoon
Diesel, when you say the small gas grill is just not working out, what is keeping it from working out? I am thinking about going the cheap route this summer and getting a small, portable, gas grill for the toon rather than spend the money on a nice Magma -- at least try it for a season is what I am thinking since they can be bought for $30. It sounds like you are ahead of me, so can you tell my why you are moving on to something better? Maybe I should not waste the $30 and just get a nice one to start with. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: Best Grill for Pontoon
Here's a link to a shot of a rail mounted one. As a result of seeing this I went out and bought the size up from this. I included some pics of the mounting hardware (bought separately) and a page from the owner's manual.diesel1978 wrote:I'm looking for some people with experience using Grills made for pontoons to help me find a good one. Personally, I haven't used it yet, and Kim hadn't either when she posted.

In my opinion the Magma Kettle Grill is the only way to go.

I cant say enough good things about my little stainless grill. I use it more camping and on park benches than on my boat but its the perfect size in my opinion.

It has a mounting tab on the front so you can hang it over a rail on your toon (which I have done many times).

Re: Best Grill for Pontoon
I too bought one from Walmart to set on a rack I built. It works great, it stays mounted as I motor down the lake. No prob. I do take it off when its time to go home. It takes about 2 min. to take it off. It took me a couple of hours to build once I had all material. Paint added a little time.
