TOON CLEANERS

#1 Post by craig » Mon May 28, 2012 7:14 am

Last year I started cleaning my toons with a aluminum cleaner sold a NAPA stores. It works great like nothing I have bought before and a fraction of the price. I mixed a 1cleaner/3 water and spray on and rinse off its really that simple with great results 1/3 the time too.

This NAPA product is called "ALUMINUM BRIGHTENER" #1478 Blue label with bright yellow lettering with the NAPA logo on the left side. Under this is smaller lettering works in seconds. Sold in gallon jugs. Promise you'll never buy another toon cleaner again.

I just went to NAPA looking for it and couldn't find the described product. I asked the NAPA guy and told him what it was for..I ended up with a small bottle of "Mothers Aluminum Polsh"....he didn't know of any NAPA product.....let me know if anyone else has luck finding it.

Heres a link showing it at NAPA....

I got a gallon of it at my local napa. They just happened to have it in as it was ordered in for someone that never came and got it.

I don't recall the name of the cleaner but yes, the stuff sold at NAPA stores is great. Works better than other alunimun cleaners & is much cheaper. Just found it a couple of weeks ago myself. Comes in a spray bottle.

The cleaner at NAPA is called Fleet Bright and it works great. Truck drivers use the stuff to clean their aluminum gas tanks. Learned the hard way do not get it on painted surface.

I found it...at my NAPA store it was called Aluminum Brightner...NAPA brand. It worked like a charm...sprayed on waited 30 seconds ...hosed off..toons looked new! I bought two spray bottles and used most all of it on my two outer toons. Great stuff...thanks!

Wow, this sounds great I have a local Napa and going to go get some and try it. One question though, are you guys just cleaning them on the trailer and getting what you can? It's be cool to be able to lift the boat somehow with straps and get it all done properly then wax. It was also mentioned that its not something you want to get on a painted surface; what about it running down on the bunk carpet.. any damage there? Thanks guys

My local Napa had it so I grabed a gallon today. Just under 30 bucks after tax, I'll be using it one day this week, I'll post results then.

I asked a guy at my local Napa store for the "Napa Aluminum Brightener" and he couldn't find it.

After searching on the internet on the Napa website, I found the stuff. I went back to the Napa store and told him the manufacturer - Mac's. He then was able to find the stuff -- but only the 32oz spray bottle was available in the store. The gallon jug was available in the warehouse as well.

I picked up a couple of bottles - I can't wait to see how well it does on my 2003 toon. I'll make sure to get "before" and "after" pics.

I have a question.....How many of you are cleaning the toons on a trailer and how many off the trailer? What I am getting at, is when you clean the toons on a trailer will tarnish or spot the paint on the trailer?

POTE, Question and answer. Product I've used doesn't seem to harm bunk carpet, going on third year.
Question, this NAPA stuff sounds like a miracle. I have used TOON BRITE for a couple years. Only thing to restore from
discoloring and algae. Works great with some elbow grease and brush. but the NAPA stuff is better?
