Already there when I bought toon last year, yes I believe its steel. Im third owner and second owner said first owner had it done at his local muffler shop.
All I know is it sure the hell keeps rope outa the water.

i've used a bridle harness like that for years, hooked onto the eyes welded to
the top rear of the pontoons. i've pulled big adult skiers and up to three tubes
with a total of 7 teenagers on them. and i got some small cracks in the
brackets that attach the toons to the deck. when you look at the load path,
it's really dumb to hook your tow rope to the toons. you're trying to pull the
pontoons back off the brackets, the brackets off the deck, the deck off the
transom. i'm planning to design and build a bracket that will bolt directly
to my transom so that the load doesn't pass through any of the boat
structure. i have a 140 hp I/O, so my sterndrive allows more room above it
than many of you have with an outboard.

Curtis, thanks for the pics.....looks like it could be fairly easy to have a local shop build. The only thing I would do different would be to turn it around. Thanks for the pictures, I will have to figure a way to biuld around the double batteries though. I will post any pictures I get once I start the build, well I will post IF I figure out how in the hell to post them online hahaha, yes I am a tool and I don't know how to post on the forum yet! :drink3

I like that home built tow bar, looks good and probably 1/4 of the price.

I went to the local hardware store and bought the largest eye bolts they had. Then I obtained a couple of pieces of 1/4 inch thick by 4in square scrap aluminum. I have an aluminum deck and needed them as backing. I then just drilled holes through the deck, installed the eye bolts and backing plates. Have pulled adults (including my fat butt) around all day without any problems. Mounted then about where curtis tow bar is mounted along the edge of the deck.

curtiscapk............

Did you happen to notice what kind of fender washers or support plates are used on the underside of the deck (where the unit is bolted to the deck)?

Thanks so much for posting the pictures! You've provided me with a pic of exactly what I want to have fabricated for my toon. Never thought about 1.5" steel. And, to the poster that mentioned checking out a muffler shop......thanks! I've taken some measurements of my transom area, and I hope to get a tow bar made and installed before the boat goes into the water.

So, now I can take the pics with me, along with my measurements and see what I can get done.

Ahhhh......May will get here eventually.....

scbwr,

My daughter was sick this past weekend, so we are trying for this coming weekend, just can't seem to get down there with lots of work to do before season really starts. :x

Hey, thanks so much for thinking of me. I hope she's feeling better. Anytime you can get back to me will be fine....I won't be working on my boat until April. Heck, we'll still get a good snowfall before St. Patrick's Day is over....or there abouts!

Steve,

my wife had left with camera and my phone didn't have a flash. Looked like two inch washers against deck and one inch after that with lock washer and nut on all bolts I tried to see if they were loose at all and they didn't budge.
Hope this helps.

Here is lot during clean up again forgot to take after pics, going back down in three weeks to maybe start on deck.

Craig!

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I was thinking of using a large fender washer....which sounds like someone did on your rig. I'm anxious for spring to arrive here so I can take the winter cover off, double check my measurements and see if I can find someone to one for my boat. Looks like it would be a lot less expensive than buying a factory made one or trying to get one fabricated from stainless steel. Some good Rustoleum primer and paint can do a pretty good job!

Thanks again!
Steve
