covers when in the water

#1 Post by longtimeboater » Sun May 31, 2009 12:53 pm

I posted this question about a week ago and I should have said that I keep the boat at my dock (in the water) in front of my home all summer long..... I just bought my second pontoon boat..love it!!! my big complaint is the COVER. I went from bad to worse!! it takes me at least 30 minutes of tugging and pulling to get the thing on...I hate the idea of leaving it open to sun/rain/polin/bird dodo etc... but I am way to busy to cover it every Sunday and uncover it the next Saturday...Am I the only lazy guy out there?? what are my options??? Thanks

You got me. I kept mine in a slip two years ago and spiders and birds were bad. The dock owners didnt keep things up much. I can leave mine uncovered all summer long in the yard and it stays clean, just have to use good UV block on the seats. Looking for a new slip now.

The PC has the rear sleeper canvass which takes 2 minutes to put up and the mooring cover, which takes about 3... the rest is all cabin.

Left the old one uncovered 3 to 6 months, kept saying next time I go down I will cover it. Well never did, when I pulled it out to sell the stitching was breaking and had cracks in the vinyl. Figured that cost me about 2k to 3k on the sale. Maybe uncovered for a day or two at the most a weekend now. I had also been using some pretty strong stuff on the vinyl since it was all white to make it come clean, so I am sure that contributed to it early demise. Sold it for 5k, 25ft San Pan, 90merc and tandem trailer. Still the buyer did okay since the vinyl was the only problem. Otherwise good solid boat.

How about getting a tarp that just fits over the railing and use bungee cords to keep it on? One end attached to an eyelet and the other to under the rub rail or ?.

What happens at the lake stays at the lake. Unless I have my camera handy.

Our cover takes me 10 minutes to put on so it's always covered when not in use. Someone last year used a parachute from army surplus to cover for the season.

If I had to sell my wife kids and dog I'd do it to get a covered lift. There's no question that covering a boat helps bigtime in keeping years off it so you can't just not cover it. I went thru the same ordeal before I got my lift. Covering it was very difficult. I'm pretty conservative on how I spend my money but...getting a covered pontoon lift was the best thing I ever purchased. :2cents

Mine gets covered every night when we are done. We may not put the poles up, but it sure makes it a lot easier to clean before the next outing.
