Lifting Pontoon Off The Trailer Question

#1 Post by ralph » Tue Feb 09, 2016 1:33 pm

Having the pontoons painted with anti-fouling paint (TRILUX 33). The shop (who is experienced at this sort of thing...I hope) says they will lift/hoist my boat off of the trailer to paint the bottom half of the tubes.

They will lift the boat by the pop-up cleats which they say are built to do this.

I am a bit leary about that. Is it anyone's understanding that this can be done without damaging the boat (20' Sweetwater)?

Don't know about using the pop up cleats. When I had mine done they lifted it up by the front and rear of the toons. On the very front and rear mine has a round hook like.

Mine does too. They are like round holes welded to each end of the pontoons. I can't figure out what they are doing, but if something goes wrong it's on their dime.

No way I would trust the pop-up cleats to lift the boat.

Suggest that you read the shop's disclaimer first. Best to have your own insurance :prayer .

Exactly; no way would I allow my boat to be lifted via cleats that are merely screwed or even bolted through the wooden deck on their dime or not... If their are eyelets welded on to each end of the pontoons that is where they are designed to be lifted from...

Your cleats won't hold, look under the deck. They will have to lift it by the eyes on the pontoons or a strap.
