What prop are you running on 24'
I recently added a Suzuki DT 140 HP outboard to my 24' tritoon. It came with a plastic 4 blade prop that I have no idea what the pitch is and I don't have tachometer yet either. The top speed is currently 24 mph. Just wondering what prop others are running with similar setup so I know where to begin.

You got us on that one. The Suzuki motors have a planetary gear in the driveline resulting in a much lower gearing. Suzuki's generally run large diameter, high pitch propellers--different from what you'd run on a Yamaha or Mercury outboard.
They're very dependable motors, however propellers are not as readily available as with the other brands. And since we see so few Suzuki motors on tritoons, I cannot help you on this one. Maybe a Suzuki dealer can tell you which prop would do a good job on your boat.

Wow, I didn't realize that the gearing was different but that would explain why it has such strong holes hots but not the top end speed I expected to gain. So a 14" prop is the largest that will fit then do I want a high number for pitch like 15 or 17?
Re: What prop are you running on 24'
You probably need a higher pitch prop than that even. Talk to a Suzuki dealer with experience selling them on pontoons.

There's a 13x21p on ebay for $100 that Im thinking about getting to try out
Re: What prop are you running on 24'
Or there is also a 13 1/4×21 in SS for $265 that seems like a pretty good deal

24 foot party barge don't have a clue on the prop its not going to make that much difference with a 50 hp... 18 mph wot cruse at 10 to 14..
If it ever hits 20 I have a parachute ready.
Thought about upping to a 150 and those strakes but that will be next years project.............Maybe

Pull up their performance bulletins and try to find something similar in weight and length. That should give you a good place to start. They try a bunch of props for those tests to get the best possible setup.
Re: What prop are you running on 24'
I got the stainless 13 1/4 × 17p and ran it Saturday with 3 adults l, 1 toddler and gear. Our top speed was 20 mph. Not really any different speed than the old 4 blade fiberglass prop that was on it but the rpm's sounded really low. We adjusted the throttle cable once to try to get more throttle and that helped a little but I still think the motor has more in it.
Next time I go out I'll try to hook up the tachometer and charge the spark plugs and try a light weight run with 2 adults and no gear to see what happens.
Any other suggestions?

But what are your RPM's at full throttle? You still should have more speed.
Your 140 hp Zuki has a reputation for long life, durability and good fuel mileage. But it'd been nice if it'd had the 150 hp which is much stronger of a motor--more cu. inches.

I haven't hooked up the tachometer yet but the rpm's sounded very low. Hopefully I can get it hooked up the next time I take it out so I can get some real numbersBamaman wrote:But what are your RPM's at full throttle? You still should have more speed.

Yes, I'm starting to think I should have gone with at least a 150 hp but hopefully I get get more out of this motor for now
