Boat Insurance tied to Homeowners

I'm searching around for some more competitive prices for our boat insurance. I'm currently with State Farm $775/yr. Our 2007 Bennington is 25 foot with a 225HP outboard. Liberty Mutual is combining it with the homeowners policy for the quote so it is difficult to compare. State Farm has us at

Boat & Motor @ $39,200
Watercraft Liability @ $300,000
Medical Payments @ $5,000
Trailer @ $3,000
$1,000 deductible
Annual cost is $775 with State Farm

Liberty Mutual has the Liability @ $500,000
$500 deductible
Physical Damage $35,000

What are others seeing currently on their similar boats?

I pay about $400 year (part of my homeowners policy). I did recently look at US Boat and they're insurance is a bit less. I may be contacting them. If you're a US Boat Member give them a look. Yours seems a little high but you need to compare the details.

Is yours a 20 footer with a 90HP engine? That's what it looks like. One of the quotes I got from TWFG sent me an email asking how fast our boat went?

I too have State Farm for one house and two cars. I find them to be medium high in pricing. They were not very competitive on boat insurance quotes, and the agent acted like the company really was trying to shy away from the boat business.

I originally insured my boat with Progressive insurance and later switched over to U.S. Boat--specialized marine insurance with stated values. They've recently brokered the coverage out to GEICO on my July renewal.

FYI: Allstate has two houses and two cars insured, and they're very reasonable on homeowners' insurance and cheaper than State Farm on the cars. My main residence is insured with Essurance, an Allstate Company, at rates much, much cheaper than State Farm--like 1/3 the rates.

As you can tell, I prefer to keep my insurance spread out to different sources. And for boats, I prefer to insure with a specialized marine insurer as boaters have specific needs that the big box insurers simply don't provide.

Just a heads up........ Boats US will not allow a quick quote using Mozilla Firefox latest version. What a bunch of boneheads. One of the most used browsers in the world!! Have to use EI only!

Just got the quotes from Boats US Premium Policy is $315, Value Policy is $230. Less than 1/2 the State Farm price for somewhat better coverage

I left State Farm because they would not insure the older house next to me I own under 1 homeowners Policy. I moved to All State after shopping around and got 50K more in coverage on My primary residence and the second house covered for $200 less than what I was paying state farm just for my primary residence (saved over 1k total from what I was paying on both houses). What struck me as odd was I got my best price from a Allstate office 2hrs away from me and not the one in the city I live in. I then called the same All State office about my Auto's that was with State farm at the time. I got the same full coverage on 3 vehicles with All State for less than what my wife's Tahoe alone was costing me with State Farm. 2 years later and with increases I am now still paying a less than $100 more for all 3 vehicles than I was on my wife's Tahoe alone 2 years ago with State Farm. I Basically just put what you had as the Value Policy for $230 on the new toon I just bought and with my Bundle / discounts it came out to $184. All I can say is I should have shopped around earlier as I was a long time State Farm Customer and had never filed a single claim.

State farm are pigs, Everything that's wrong with the industry, And that's a long list. They were one of the co's that did everything they could to avoid paying after Katrina, Including breaker the law, not to mention the rules of humanity. They don't deserve your business.

Go take a look at PROGRESSIVE. I was pleasantly surprised! I have a policy on a Harley with them, and having two policies give me a much better rate on both.

Give Charter Lakes Insurance a call. This has been the best and lowest cost on all three boats I have insured. They only do Boat Insurance!! with disappearing deductible. Great customer service: Here is my declaration page:

I just shopped my homeowners, vehicles and boat within the last month. I previously had progressive on the boat and almost everyone said they couldnt beat progressive. Ive been told to check charter lakes, but havent called them yet.

Well, after checking around, here is the dope.....

State Farm (what I had) $65/mo

Liberty Mutual $77/mo

TWFG/Progressive $39/mo

BoatsUS $26/mo

Clearly BoatsUS which only does boats is the lowest. Never had to use them b4 and they are now using GEICO Marine Insurance Company.

All the other quotes were included with the truck and home policies carried at the same time. I'm not sure why the others could not be competitive??

All the declarations info was very similar as regards the liability, collision, comprehensive, uninsured boater, etc. I did notice that the personal effects coverage with BoatsUS was $0. I suppose the others were covering that inside the homeowners or something. BoatsUS is the only one inclusing towing and trailer coverage. Really, it's a no brainer I think.
