New boat help

#1 Post by epowell01 » Tue Apr 27, 2010 11:50 am

Hello forum..need your help and expertise. I'm trying to choose between a couple of new boats
1 - Sylvan 8522 Signature Fish N Cruise w/ performance toons, LX styling and all the bells and whistles
2 - G3 LX3 tri-toon

Both boats are similarly priced and I know about their averages speeds, etc. Unfortunately I can't step on either boat without a considerable drive and have looked at photos on the internet until my eyes are blurry.

In your opinion....which boat is nicer? Wife wants the plushness and I believe the Sylvan has a nicer interior based on photos, but have seen neither in person. Since I'll be paying for it for a long time to come, would like to know your thoughts.

Thanks !

Do they have roughly the same size engine? IF not, then get the one with the bigger engine.

Also, I see the G3 is a tri-toon, what about the Sylvan ( I know is says perf. logs, but that could still mean 2).

Sylvan is a 2010 w/ Yamaha 150 - will run approximately 43 GPS
G3 is a 2009 tri-toon w/ 225 demo boat with about 30 hrs on it.

The two-toon Sylvan has some patent pending performance toons that are unique to this boat and everything I've read are good reviews. I'm leaning that way and know someone on here has the exact model and is happy with it. Just looking for a realistic comparision from someone that has possibly stepped on both types of boats. There are many different models of everything. Looking to compare a Signature series Sylvan with a LX series G3.

Came close to getting a Sylvan 22/150hp and the performance logs. You get a performance boat with a 2 log benefits.

I'm way new at this so I am probably missing something. I'll also admit that I don't know much about the Sylvan's performance logs. It would seem, though, that for about the same price the G3 offers 75 more horses and 3 logs vs 2. That would make me lean toward the G3 because I think those are 2 "big" issues. Of course, if neither are important to you and the Sylvan hits other "hot buttons" then you have to consider that. Good luck with the decision and have fun on either boat.

I shopped toons for months before buying, and I ended up choosing the G3 Elite with performace toons and f225. The elite is very plush which is what my wife was looking for and hauls butt for a 26' boat, which was what I was looking for

I have not been on either boat but I would opt for 225 with 3 toons. I would think it has greater resale value if that time should come.

Looks to me they are both nice toons. I am partial to the tri-toon but the design of the Sylvan is interesting. I would ask for at test run on each. Take a gps and decide. You can have the faster toon and not like it as much as the slower. So a test run will be the way to decide.

Appreciate all the help - probably going with the Sylvan. The G3 is not the layout I wanted (they have a FNC model, but not the '09 demo deal I spoke of). My goal was a 22' pontoon, plush, fishing setup, and able to ski/tube. This one seems to fit the bill. Should confirm order later today and will have it mid-May (ugggh.... the wait).

Sounds like you've found your boat. Now get that thing in the water, and get us some more pictures. :pics
