New Owner with slight problem.

#1 Post by TweetyBird » Sun May 23, 2010 10:27 am

Hello. I am the new owner of a 2008 Sun Tracker Regency Party Barge 22. If have had boats for years, and we have wanted a toon for a while. We just bought it as a demo model. It has the NV performance logs and a 90 Optimax. We took out first little cruise yesterday, unfortunately it was only about 100 yards and the boat died. After we checked it out, it seems there is a lot of water in the fuel. I had smelled gas after I filled it up, but there were no leeks. We saw gas coming from the tank area leaking into the water when we trailered it. When we checked further, there was a lot of water in the gas. I guess the tank has a crack near the top, or a vent hose off, or something, i will dig deeper into it tomorrow. I guess I will see if they will fix it, i may use a portable tank for next weekend as we have family coming out to the lake. Any ideas would be greatly appreciateed. THX

Hi Tweety..........welcome to the club.
You bought a great boat. We love ours.
If your dealer is as good as ours, they should fix your problem with no questions.

Yes, it is a great boat. Bought the exact model as a dealer demo last year with the 135 HP optimax and we had a blast with it last year. Please let me know what you find out, may be something I need to be aware of on our boat.

Even though it's a demo, your dealer should take care of the repair without any questions. After all the boat has a warranty. I feel sure they'll take care of it.

Have them put on a fuel water separator kit. The cost is only about $25. You could do it yourself but since you just bought it, have them do it. It's probably not cracked. Just bad gas.

Thanks for all the replies. It seems another dealer did the tank vent recall and drilled the hole in the tank too big for the vent, and put the vent in anyway. As soon as the boat got in the water, the tank filled with water. They are putting in a new tank now, and should have it ready tomorrrow. It does have the fuel/ water seperator, there was just way too much water in the tank.
