Prop damage

#1 Post by laketime » Wed Jul 07, 2010 4:54 pm

Was out today and I was cruising in some shallow water and the prop hit something. I tilted the engine up to see any damage and one blade looks skimmed a little. The paint on it is gone and it looks a little rough on the edge. I did notice a tiny little vibration when I was running full out after that. Is this something I should worry about? :scared

It's possible that you threw the prop out of balance. Since you can feel the vibration, I wouldn't drive it too much. A good prop shop should be able to fix you up. If it was a SS prop, I would check the prop shaft.

A little vibration is okay any more have it rebuilt. Not many people running the lakes that don't have a few dings. Probably a good idea to get a prop wrench an carry a spare, not that I do but it would be better than having to put it on the trailer.

If you can feel a vibration it should be fixed. I just spend $40 to have a modestly bent aluminum prop repaired. I had to take it back for a pitch adjustment but that was free as part of the repair. Works great now.

I now have a spare prop (also aluminum), floating wrench, and nut kit onboard because there are many submerged trees and such in the Bend......it really doesn't matter how deep the water is, there were tall trees in that river bottom!
