my trailer bunks floated away

#1 Post by El Kabong » Thu Jul 29, 2010 12:14 pm

I bought a '99 24' Bennington Tritoon and when I went to launch it for the first time the bunks on the back left of the trailer launched with the boat to my surprise. Luckily I was able to put the boat at a friends dock until I can repair the trailer. I knew they would need to be replaced when I bought it just thought it wouldn't be so soon. The brackets were rusted and the the mount for the wood broke off. So here are a few questions...

1. The old bunks were split with a 10' section up front and a 5' section in back should I just run one long bunk instead of having a split between the bunks at the tires?

2. If I run a single bunk do I just use 2 2X6 and put them together to make the bunk longer or do I need to find a 20' 2X6? I am in the florida Keys so we don't have to many lumber stores.

3. Also the trailer has no support for the middle toon do I need to install a bunk there? I am curious because the engine is mounted to the middle toon so it has to support the wieght.

Thanks for your help.

2 pieces on the bunks are fine. All of the support is at the metal supports below. Think about it. If you stood on the bunks in the middle of 2 supports it would bow pretty good.

If it were me I would have bunks to support the middle toon and motor. There are kits you can buy for this.

Look here under bunks an guides, believe they have the ones already carpeted so that would save you some time. Think they have about anything you might need for a trailer including tires.
