Thanks for the link. The shop is charging $250ish for the part and then about 1 -1.5 hours of labor brings total to about $400. I think I may have a "spun prop" also. Occasionally my rpm will shoot up, and I will slow drastically. The mechanic said that is most likely the elongated rubber o-ring inside the prop that is worn letting the prop spin around the rubber o-ring. :fyou Gotta love boats :thumbsup

That is probably a reasonable price. They usually want $100 to look at anything.
That is why I like to be able to do a lot of the maintenance myself.
I suppose you might have a spun prop but usually that is not going to be a sometime thing. You should spin it on a hole shot every time and one day it won't go at all. One thing you can do is mark the hub nut and the same spot on the prop itself with a sharpie pen. Look later that day and see if the marks are still lined up.

This shop charges $80 to look into the problem, but then they apply that towards the repair bill if you decide to have them do the work. They took of the prop, and it did need a new hub. Only $77 bucks but they had to send it out. I should get the boat back tomorrow. Hopefully I can have a few months without something else breaking. :prayer

People like to beat up on the prices shops charge but there is a lot of overhead to maintain any shop you would trust your motor to. That is particularly true if they service several brands since everything is proprietary so they need to have different tools and test equipment for each brand. Parts are another nightmare.
I prefer doing my own maintenance but I have a pretty significant investment in tools and I have a lot of experience in the school of hard knocks. I am also a one brand guy.

Finally got it back from the shop today. It works nicely again. Is it normal to have an audible alarm when the motor reaches the top of the tilt? Maybe some sort of warning to not start the motor? :smoke

The alarm you are hearing is possibly a low oil alarm...when your tilted all the way up the oil shifts to the front of the tank sometimes tricking the oil level sensor... and no there is no alarm specifically related to trim/tilt on that motor.

Yep, you were right. Oil was low...filled up, :smoke and no more alarm.
