Pontoon boat anchors
Need some help in chooseing a boat anchor for a 22ft pontoon boat. It will be used mostly on rivers and sometimes on a lake. Could someone tell me what brand or type most of you are using for this type of boating. Any help much appreciated.
Thank you

Re: Pontoon boat anchors
I use a 50 lb plow anchor, boat's 32ft with a cabin on it. Coupled with strong tidal current and bay chop, it holds well.

Did you try the search feature? I just searched by "anchor" and got 282 matches. Now, not all of them are specifically related to your question, but a quick scan showed many were.TerryJW wrote:Need some help in chooseing a boat anchor for a 22ft pontoon boat. I suspect if you search hard enough pretty much every topic imaginable regarding pontoons has been covered. Why not cut the guy some slack and just don't respond if you don't have input or don't wish to provide input? If it weren't for repeat topics what the hell would we talk about? Now, to answer the guy's question. I just use one mushroom anchor off the front and one off the back when I'm at the lake. I don't think that would be the best option in a river environment. I'm sure there are guys on here that boat a lot in rivers that can better answer your question (unless they would prefer you to search for it )

Re: Pontoon boat anchors
I use a two fluke style anchors like the one in the link below if I am anchored at a sandbar, or just one if I am fishing. I anchor in sand so this may not be appropriate for a rocky river bottom though.

This anchor is designed for rivers and description says it is good for pontoon boats.

Re: Pontoon boat anchors
When fishing, we usually tie up at the bow, then throw out a couple of 15# mushroom anchors on each side at the back of the boat. Keeps us pretty still.. only complaint about the mushroom anchors is they're a pain in the a$$ to get all of the mud out of when pulling back up.. I usually just keep dunking back in the water over and over until all the mud rinses thru the holes.

Re: Pontoon boat anchors
I use a 8 lb Fluke anchor on the back of my pontoon and a 12 lb Navy Anchor on the front. Both anchors have a 4ft heavy chain attached to the rode and the anchor. The Navy works good but doesn't dig into the sand good like the fluke anchor does. I used to have two fluke anchors and a friend forgot to pull the rear anchor once on my Four Winns and I lost it in the bottom of the lake. He replaced the one we lost with the heavier Navy anchor. "LONG STORY-SHORT TALE" That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Mushroom anchors are fine on little fishing boats but not good on bigger boats or in sand as they tend to roll and can't grip.

Re: Pontoon boat anchors
I have 2 Diggers. I like them because our lake has a very rocky bottom and I know being able the trip the flutes has saved me a number of times. After seeing the slide anchor though, that's what I would have bought if I'd known about it. Looks like a great, simple idea.

Hey georgia. Are referring to the box anchor? How does it work for you?georgiatoon wrote:Here is the anchor to beat all anchors - imo http://www.slideanchor.com/Customer%20Reviews_130.htm Pat
I am still trying to find something that makes me happy. My lake has tremendous variety of bottoms. To make things worse, my wheelhouse makes a pretty good sail.
Last year I took a chance and bought a Chene anchor. It had gotten good reviews and was supposed to be an upgrade of the traditional Fluke style. What a piece of shit it is! I need to move on and have been looking at the boxes.

Re: Pontoon boat anchors
Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. Much appreciated. I have decided to go with either the Box anchor or the Richter anchor and thanks again for all your help.

Re: Pontoon boat anchors
Sorry for the slow responce but the slide or box anchor that I referred to is something I wish I would have invented. Hope that answers your question.TerryJW wrote:Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. Much appreciated.
