Square Rail Pontoon Rod Holders - Best one I have used!!!

#1 Post by rolguin » Tue Aug 02, 2011 9:33 am

Cabela's now carries a square rail rod holder for Pontoons. I have caught fish of all sizes, most notably a 32 lb blue cat at Lake Lewisville. I also hve drift masters, which are great, but the lady don't want me drilling holes in the rails.
I bought 3 last year, walked into the store in Ft. Worth and the store had great inventory. Cost is 21.99, I purchased 6 more.

Yepper. I have those on mine and they work very well. Good fit and easy to adjust/move.

Good to see you here! I know you from TFF "Texas fishing forum"! I need a few of those holders myself. Dont like the idea of drilling up my railing any more than I have to !Thanks

my mooring cover fits so tightly I can't leave the bases for driftmasters on the rails...do these come off easily, or could they work with wing nuts?

Playcat, looks like you could use your own bolts and wing nuts. Seems to be enough space between each for that.

my cover is also tight. the flat part should face to the outside of the boat so nothing sticks out. you can still fit the cover on without taking them off. they are made by scotty.

I recently looked at those but decided to go with these driftmaster knock-offs at Amazon.com:

I haven't gotten them yet, but I will post how well they work once I get to use them.

My mooring cover is also very tight.
I have these mounted with the flat side out, and the bulk inside, opposite from what the picture shows. I will take pictures. The holes for both the bolt head and the lock nut are countersunk.

Like Johnathan, I didnt want to drill holes in my 2009 toon, and would use the drift master square rail mount ( I did use wing nuts on one side of the mount bracket), at the cost of 8.99 for lil pro, and 9.99 for the pro.

These answer all my questions, I even have two mounted at the back of the toon for trolling. The mount is very streamlined on the outside so my tight Mooring cover is not affected, yet easy to set up and fish with. When not needed. a twist, pull them out, stow and they are out of the way.

Also the screw and lock nut are stainless. :)

I do have a bundle invested in drift masters, and will be using them on my new 1989 Tracker v guide special boat :)

For square rail, these are the easiest and best.

Nope, you would need a screw gun to remove them...that or one of those spanish things called a screwdriver I think?? Not realt fond of the man-you-el tools.

I had about six of the Attwood for my previous boat and they were great. You can get the holders and brackets at Walmart.

Just picked up 5 more from Cabelas. :alright They look just like the scotty holders, but they have the nice square rail mount. I now have great fitting rod holders at the back of my toon so we can troll!! I can spider fish, or drift for catfish, and within a Minute or two be geared up and ready to go. Some spots I have the flat side facing in and outside of the toon. Love the way I can easily adjust the fishing angle, as well as the direction they fit. I usually drift 5 - 6 rods when fishing for big Blue Cats.

Sweet deal :nana

Do these Cabela's holders go all the way around the square tube?

The ones I bought do and I can't use them where I really need to. Because my walls go all the way up to the tube I can only put them in the middle of my boat on the sides. And on one side that tube is blocked by the J seat. Here's a picture:
