Pontoon And Bahamas
Could you take a pontoon from Florida to the Bahamas. If you can what size of Pontoon and motor. How long would it take to get there. This will have a bering on what I buy.I don't like to fly and Florida is only a full days drive away.My thought is find a marina where I can park truck and trailer.Go for a week or 2 to the Bahamas and head back.Any info on this would be great and thanks.

I read this in a magazine a couple of years ago and thought it sounded like fun.
Glad I was able to find it on Google.

I, also, think it would be fun to take a pontoon and travel the Intercoastal Waterway.

Like the link states it would take a ton of prep work and a large set of cajones if you don't have any corporate backing.
I personally wouldn't do it, but then I'm old and know my limitations.

Re: Pontoon And Bahamas
When I lived in florida I used to want to make that trip. Like the article said, its only 50 or so miles. Then I got to talking to people and they informed me of how tricky the seas can be, and the also said that modern day pirates on go fast boats still work around there. Changed my mind a bit on that one.

Ya... although it sounds like fun, open sea and pontoon boat just dont go together in my book.

Depends where you are coming from in Canada.
From Toronto to Florida is about 24 hours, so yes you can if you drive straight thru.
Dorchester is a few hours closer to the Windsor/Detroit border than Toronto.

Re: Pontoon And Bahamas
If I was in a group and willing to lose my pontoon I might try it, but to do it alone without twin motors you would have to be a freaking idiot! The sea will go from calm to 3-4' with no warning. No place for a pontoon.
Also might need to check your insurance. They might not cover you in that situation.
