who has a 150hp motor on toon

#1 Post by gramps » Sat Dec 24, 2011 11:07 am

We are planning on trading our toon on a new one at the Atlanta boat show. We are looking for a tri toon with a 150 hp motor & trailer. I'm hoping to stay under $33,000.
Who has one and how much speed do you get, I am also curious as to your price as they are all over the place.

I may consider a 2 log toon with strakes, but I want something that goes at least 34/35 mph.
We keep our toon on Lanier and it's to slow to see all the great places to explore.

We have a Manitou SHP with a 250 and love it - obviously a bit more money than you are looking to spend. Manitou does make a VP with is a tri-toon that will take up to a 150. I believe they run close to 40 - you can check out the reports on the Evinrude site - you can get whatever engine you like. The dealer we used was Bay Marine in Kennesaw for both our pontoons.......hope this helps.

Howdy- we have a 2011 Manitou 22 foot Oasis tritoon VP package with Yamaha 150 HP 4-stroke, we paid around $36K but we added a few things like the $2K power assisted steering. Give Marty a call at Palmetto Boat Center in Greenville,SC he's a great guy,we bought our boat from him last April and could not be any happier with the boat and Palmetto Boat Center. Greenville is not far from Atlanta.

Cheers,
Robert

I have a 25 foot Neptoon Tritoon with a Honda 150 that I paid a little over $35k. I can get in the mid-thirties, but found that I rarely get past 3/4th throttle anyway. Would I liked to have more HP, sure. But as things are, I find that I really don't need it.

The Atlanta Boat Show is the place to look for a new pontoon boat. When you get a bunch of competitive dealers under the same roofs, hopefully the prices will fall. It's easy to figure out who's willing to deal on a boat--with fair prices.

The tri toon 150 hp with strakes would be the way to go. I see more 24' boats out there than 22' boats rigged that way.

Check to see what the Bentley dealer in Flowerly Branch and the Bentley dealer in Macon can do for you. We hear nice things about both. They could order one equipped exactly like you need--since the factory's just 200 miles away (Lexington, SC).

But first, either go to Midnight Mass or Sunday Service tomorrow to pray for rain to bring the water level up on Lake Lanier. It was 12.5' low a few days ago. That's a shame for the #1 most visited U.S. Government facility--and an absolutely beautiful setting.

Another option would be to look for a year old used boat. When boathouses are sitting in mud, making those monthly payments in the middle of winter is very painful. The used boat market in Atlanta is absolutely incredible.

I have an 09 Crestliner Bataba Bay Tritoon Lifting Strakes with a Merc 150. Not sure if Crestliner still does pontoons, they are better known for their V Hulled fishing boats ( had one of those also).
WOT is about 37MPH GPS but as above I don't run it much past 3/4 throttle. I have been very happy with the boat and motor. Gets up on plane quickly and trims out nice.

If I could buy anything I wanted, I would go with a Harris or Bennington and try one of the Nip 4 Strokes.

Thanks for the answers guys, I have talked to the Bentley people and they are on my short list as the toon has everything that I'm looking for. I can't wait for the Atlanta boat show to get here.

Our 2011 Manitou 22 foot Oasis Tritoon Yamaha 150HP runs 34-40 MPH depending how clean the toons are since it sits in a wet slip year round. The Manitou turns really tight and handles GREAT!!! , which is great for water sports.

You are on the right track with the 150 with strakes. It will definitely increase your range, and that is the primary reason I went to the tritoon when I traded. Really liked the old two log just got to thinking about all the places I use to visit with my bow rider and figured that would do it. Talk with the guys at the Oakwood exit and sure he can fix you up with a 40mph boat for your price or cheaper. Might be able to get a 200 or 225 not sure. Go ahead and price in the double bimini since it is cheaper to get it now rather than later. Maybe a ski tow if you got kids or grandkids.
The 150 should put you mid thirties or better on most 24's unless it is really heavy. If you go Bentley do get the strakes, they are the best option I purchased.

I see the Atlanta Boat Show starts Thursday, 1/12/12 and goes through Sunday. They look like a bunch of dealers and suppliers will be in attendance. I'm going to try to get over there for a day--even if it's just a turnaround trip.

Unless you go to the boat shows in South Florida, the other boat shows just don't stack up with Atlanta. Of course, Florida would be the place to go if you were going for a cruiser or salt water fishing boat. Nashville's going on the same weekend as Atlanta. But, they don't show to have the big monster houseboat manufacturers coming in.

I guess if you're in that market, you'd just head for Lake Cumberland, KY to see the boats in the water.

I am guessing the South Florida shows are going to have more seagoing yachts and big sport fish kinda boats that you see in Atlanta but who knows. There may a few Bertram 800s cruising around Lake Lanier but probably one at a time just because of space limitations ;)

I have a 22 foot Sylvan with a 150HP Etec and it will run around 39 on gps, 42 by speedometer, with 2 people and around 3/4 tank of gas, top down in stored position. The Sylvan has planing

hulls ( RPT tubes) and so far I am very pleased with the boat. I think the asking price was somewhere around $33K , but it was a year old ( still new though) and I traded another boat in on it

also. I don't usually run the boat very hard, but it is nice to have the power and speed if you need it. I can deep water start slalom skiiers, pull tubes with no problem. I hope you have good luck

at the boat show. I bought this boat in late February a couple of years ago, there was snow on the ground when I first went to look at it.

Got a 06 Lowe 25' Tritoon with a 150 Merc Opti. I dont do WOT much, but i have gotten 31-32 pretty easy with just me, my girl, and a dog on it. (this is by speedo, not GPS, so take it how you want). Im very happy with the speed i get out of mine. I bought used at 22,500, but i shopped around for over a year before i found the layout and price i wanted. I would suggest waiting for that boat you really want, rather than buying something now.
