I'm pretty sure it's Chinese made as there was one of those "Inspected By" stickers under the cowl with a distinctive Asian name.

I'm sure his ears turned red that day because his name came up a few times when I saw what I saw come out of that motor.
There were no metal shavings mixed in with the oil that I could detect. The crap showing in my picture was stuff that was sitting on top of my drain container before I started changing the oil.
It does burn me up and part of me does wish it would just blow up but another part of me wants to make the best out of the situation. So I'll change the oil this weekend and be extra vigilant.

There is a good chance that this thing will live longer than you plan on keeping it. Truth be told water is an excellent lubricant and the only damage would be caused by rust. There is not a lot of steel in these motors to rust and the oil retards that anyway. I understand your frustration and I would try to get something from them for your troubles but I am not sure trusting them for service work would be wise. Maybe try for a couple cases of oil and a bunch of filters. That is the main service cost on these motors anyway.

Smart move notifying Mercury about the incident. I would follow up with them to see if they had been in touch with your dealer about it.

Good advise.
A year, 3 oil changes, and almost 60 engine hours later, she's still running like a champ.
