Parts came in early today, so hopefully I'll have the PC up and running tomorrow. Also found another potential issue:

Image

Bottom is the factory fuel tank withdraw tube, top is the replacement from Moeller. The problem with the withdraw tube being cut flat is with a poly tank, they flex enough to have the withdraw tube hit the bottom of the tank, thus blocking off fuel flow. Clearing is only 1/4 inch, tank flex can be an inch or more. Also, the new part says the screen is unneccessary, to discard it.

In the automotive industry, we called that a "silent recall" on both counts. :tofunny

The withdraw tube should always be cut at an angle on poly fuel tanks, if not just for flexing and expansion/contraction in case the tank is where someone can sit on it and block the tube...

Now I hope nothing made it's way to the carb. Unlikely due to the fact there's 2 filters after the failed fuel line.

I would remove the screen because if something "should" get in the tank it will get cought by the screen and stop up the fuel system... THAT said i run a "inline fuel filter 6" from the tank on every boat i own, this keeps junk from getting anywhere near the fuel pump or carbs/inj system AND i cary a new filter in a zip lock bag in the tool kit/glove box they are cheap and having a spair filter is better than a Tow anyday :) BTDT dont want to do it again.... and yes cut at least a 45* angle on the pick up tube :)

have a good 1 or 2 :)

Hey BMR...
Is there a factory fuel filter installed on the 3.0?

Yep, there's 2 actually. One in the carb/fuel inlet and another in the fuel pump bowl and extremely hard to get to. Btw, she's running fine now. I also had to adjust the carb a bit after replacing the pump, lines and fuel tank pickup tube. There's an anti-tamper device on the carb (thanks to those damn hippies) that makes these motors run lean. Factory adjustment is 1 1/4 out, but all 3.0 run better at 2 turns out. I had to do teh same on my Starcraft. Don't tell Al Gore or Pelosi.

Good thing is I ordered the parts last Monday, had them installed Friday night and was back on the water Sunday without missing a single weekend. :tofunny

TB injection is looking better and better though. I have a friend who bought an injection kit for his '67 Chevelle and he loves it.

If you have any midget friends, buy him a case of beer and lower him in the bilge by his legs to get to the fuel bowl filter, it's that much of a PITA to get too. :tofunny

Looks like my carb is screwed too. Took her out today, stalling at mid throttle range and hard to start warm. Switched carbs with the Starcraft and it runs fantastic.

Apparently whatever melted my fuel line, is in the carb as well. Debating whether to replace the TKS carb with the old choke style...the Starcraft's carb had to be rebuilt ONCE in 11 seasons, and that was just for a minor bogging issue.

Until she's upgraded to TBI that is.

Delayed our time on the Bohemia about an hour, went out anyway and just stayed out later :tofunny

I also filed an insurance claim for ethanol damage...who knows if it'll get approved or not. I haven't filed a claim in 23 years of boating, so hopefully if it is approved my rates won't go up.

Disassembled the carb today and found yellow jelly-like crap inside. This is despite stabilzing, topping off the tank, etc.

Check out the corrosion at the bottom of the fuel bowl..2 1/2 year old carb. Yellow substance is suspiciously the same color as the fuel line plastic liner....

I have a Mercruiser spin-on type. Wasn't installed until after the first season we had the boat though. I also sent my pics to the owner of our marina. His reply:

"Ed we have seen this before, in what we feel is the biggest EPA stupidity in our view. They require a “blend in fuel change” each year. This is causing a varnish to build in the tank over the winter when the winter and Summer mix of fuels is combined and left for awhile. They do sell a product for this. You can stop in the office and we can show you it. With this said, we have had to replace close to 100 boat's Fuel lines, pump their tanks and carb work, because of the this issue. Let us know if you need more information".

100 boats...in the 2 small marinas he owns with 300-400 boats combined. Ridiculous.

Boat US's adjuster called and is coming to the marina tomorrow to survey the damage. Hopefully paying and not filing a claim in 20 plus years says something :tofunny

I wonder if everyone started making claims if the insurance companies might start lobbing against those a$$es...

Adjuster came and went, no telling if they are going to pay yet though. I also have a contact at Zodiac North America (thanks to our meeting at Canal Days :boobies2 ) in Annapolis. She says the spring fuel blends have been "disasterous" down her way as well.

My marina recommended the newest version of Startron, year round and not just during winter lay up.

http://mystarbrite.com/startron/

Will start using it year round in both boats.

You know me, I never shut up :tofunny If BoatUS won't help. I'm calling Tracker. If Tracker won't help, I'll join that ethanol fuel damage class action out of Florida.

I have a brother in law who works at a Valero Refinery near us (I use their gas). I may even have to kick his ass over this. :tofunny

He's already gotten a phone call :tofunny
