suntracker fishin seats wont come out of floor

#1 Post by kenbob62 » Wed Oct 23, 2013 1:16 pm

tried everything to remove the posts for the front 2 fishin chairs, theyre seized in the mounts on the floor, tried pipe wrench air hammer, floor jack, rust penetrant, anyone else had this prob? and if so did anyone get any help from tracker?thinking of contacting them since I had the same issue years ago with a sea nymph and they replaced all seat post for free. and yes I do use the boat in salt water. 2008 suntracker fishin barge

Are they the pin type? I had problems on another toon and went under and used a small bolt and hammer to drive it up.

Had the same problem. I used a sledge hammer and drive pin underneath with someoneusing a pipe wrench on top and PB blaster spray. Finally got them out and lubed them on a regular basis after i sanded down the rust off them and the hole they set in.

On our previous toon we had this issue, we were able to drive something through from the botton on one of them. The other we ended up taking a torch to the metal and beat it out, we damaged it beyond use unfortunately. Both posts had been in place without removal for about 7 years.

I had results on a Bass Boat by heating the post near the base good and hot took about 30 mins, then let it cool completely and rocked it using lots of Blaster around it at base. Finally came free. Sanded socket and post lubed well and no problem. you should remove and install them a few times a season. :donno

There's a penetrant that's used in refineries to loosen up rusted bolts that may be 30 years old or older. It works VERY VERY well.
Its called Kroil. You spray it on and let it soak for about 30 minutes. When you come back, in most cases it takes very little effort to remove the nut from the stud bolt.
It's the penetrant of choice in most plants.

An old trick I have used in the past to free up severely rusted things is pour some Coke on it and let it sit over night

ATF works every bit as good as Kroil or PB blaster... just let it soak for 24 hours and apply low heat from an electric heat gun.

I've found that a mixture of ATF and acetone (50/50) works better than anything on the planet.
