winterizing in oklahoma
Question for any oklahoma members. When do you all winterize? I'm going to try and use mine on in to November. Is it even worth winterizing these outboard for it to just sit 2-3 months in an oklahoma winter?

All I do is flush lower unit and add fresh oil ( viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22311)
Remove prop to check for line and lube propshaft.
Treat fuel
I winterize late october early Nov depending on temps.

Re: winterizing in oklahoma
Unfortunately, with two teenagers involved in multiple school sports activities and OU football tickets,my good intentions of trips to the lake in the fall seem to be just that ...good intentions. Lol
Haven't had a free weekend since Labor Day. Keep saying we are gonna take a day and enjoy one more day of lake time before we put her to bed for the winter. I'm still optimistic we can make that happen.
Having said that, I plan on wrapping her up for the year sometime in the next month. By Thanksgiving for sure. I will fill the tank full of fuel , add a can of Stabil and run it for a half hour or so. I will attach a battery tender , put some bowls of moth balls in the storage areas , wrap her up , kiss her on the cheek and say see you in the spring . I'm pretty anal about my stuff so it stays pretty clean all year. I will treat the seats with vinyl protector and do any minor clean up I need to.
I then take a vinyl tarp and completely cocoon the entire boat, stem to stern. This is over the top of the play pen cover. Secure it down to the pontoon level front, sides and back, securing with a lot of bungee cords. Wrap it tight so it doesn't flop around ....like a cocoon more or less
Boat sets on a covered lift in the marina but I can tell you that by doing this, when I come back on the spring, my playpen cover is a helluva lot cleaner than if I didn't do it. No spider, bug and bird shit all over it . Also keeps bugs out better.
When I unwrap it, the tarp then gets strung up to the boathouse uprights as a bug and bird shit preventer. Makes a huge difference over the course of a summer. Play pen stays much cleaner.

I pull the batteries, and keep them on a wooden platform in the garage, which NEVER gets below freezing. I keep the charger with them, and charge 'em a few times through the winter.
