Muskrat Guard?

#1 Post by Tim in Michigan » Mon Apr 18, 2016 7:52 am

Anyone have any knowledge about a "Muskrat Guard"? From what i understand this is a screen / metal plate, that mounts on the lower transom, to keep Muskrats from accessing the area where engine and steering cables lie. I guess the rats like to munch on the cable casings. Marina said the cable casings are made with a peanut oil type formula that is yummy to Muskrats. The dealer sells the guards for $40, and says you just drill two holes and bolt them on. Anyone done this? Neighbor said the Muskrat population was big this year at our lake, and suggested i put one on. Thanks.

Howdy- we have muskrats at our marina, seems the little bastards like to chew on wiring to keep their teeth sharp so they can open fresh water mussels. Here's what I cover my wiring with https://www.wirecare.com/products.asp?prodline=DWN I was using this http://www.docksideinnovations.com/Product.html but it's a stainless cable and we keep our boat in a wet slip year round and It was causing galvanic corrosion.
