Prop repair, is it worth it?

#1 Post by Tim in Michigan » Mon Aug 07, 2017 3:01 pm

Hey everyone.
Hit a rock with the prop this weekend, gouged the blades up enough that i ordered a replacement. Was concerned about vibration. How much damage is generally repairable I'm wondering? Thanks in advance.

A good shop can fabricate a new blade. Most just need to be filled in and balanced.

I used to go thru an aluminum prop every year. Fortunately the prop shop owner was a cousin.

After going to a stainless prop, I never ruined another prop.

A good prop shop can remanufacture a prop just fine.

If you are not comfortable running a repaired prop, you can buy a new one and keep the repaired one as a back-up in case something happens to the new one.

had mine repaired... 80 bucks or so, if i recall....

the repair shop is 2 hours away, but since i had to make a run in that direction anyway, just dropped it off... when they finished they mailed it back to me, for about $20 more...

yep, i spent 100 bucks on repairing my beat up propeller...... but they did a great job. looked brand new
