Tent On Toon

#1 Post by TexasTooner » Tue Feb 19, 2019 6:06 pm

Hi All,

Its been a long time since I've posted - lost my login and took me a while to figure it all out - good to be back. So, here is what I'm thinking.......

As in my signature, I have a 25'Lx 8.5'W Tri-toon and I can't afford the whole camper enclosure. I have read a few posts about using a small tent on the front of the toon, but I want to put a Tent over the whole damn thing.

I found a 25'L by 10'W camping tent that I'm thinking of using. I have double biminis, so my thinking is to cut the floor out of the tent, take the poles out and lay it across both biminis so I wouldn't need the middle pole support, but will at the ends, let the sides hang down, add snaps and then add fiberglass poles where needed to add rigidity.....

Okay - has ANYONE done something like this or am I as crazy as I sound.......

Thanks !!!

i think it would work

but are the sides tall enough that they would hang down far enough ? i think you could make it work if you cut the floor i a big X type pattern, put up and then trim floor to fit
if it ain't broke-it ain't ours

Ok All,

I done got er’ ordered, meaning the camping tent...... it should be in before too long and I’ll have to open er’ up and study er’ first and devise a plan on how I’m going to do this...... and if it’s feasible before I start doing anything else......

If it does work, which I’m hoping it will..... then we’re off for some new adventures!!!

Keep you all posted

Ok, the tent is in, but it’s been too cold to setup outside.

My thoughts are to set it up first to see how all the poles setup so I can have a plan on moving it to the pontoon ...... it’s gonna be fun no matter what !!!!

If you have grommets or stake loops along the bottom of the tent, you can bungee to the floor supports that go between the floor and the pontoons. That will keep tension on the tent walls, but tie the corners down hard at the tie down points. I hope you have zippered screen windows in the tent for ventilation.

You can wrap the base of the tent around the poles and tie the poles down to the deck. It will spread the force on the tent wall across the whole distance instead of tearing at single points of attachment. The biminis will be supporting the tent.

We are also interested. Looking to do some sort of sleeping arrangements on ours, and as we are at the head of a rebuild, now would be a good time to make any necessary mods

Since we’re back here, we are ordering an 8x8 pop up that has sides with windows and screens. The plan is to have mounts that will hold the tent just outside the railing and bungee it down. During the day, back in the bag an stowed on the rear on brackets over the motor..

That sounds like a great idea. For me it would be more for the shade than overnighting - can't take the sun anymore. Luckily, I have double biminis covering the whole boat. Be sure to post some pics when done, so we can see how it works out.
