Re: Project Twin
Thanks! Props back yesterday, installed. Under skin finished, loaded the necessary ropes/anchors/safety equipment/PFDs, registration & numbers installed, oil tanks filled...Just waiting on my fab guy to finish 2 more small things. He's really under the gun right now so I'm just PRAYING he gets done by Friday so I can finish up Friday night, gas her up on the way to the lake ($$$) and launch Saturday.
If I don't get in Saturday my next free day isn't till the 4th

Re: Project Twin
IF I get it wet this weekend it will just be a day trip shake down. I'll need to pull it back out for the mooring cover. Plus I fully expect SOMETHING to need tweaking
Besides, it's not looking good right now...my fab guy is looking at Saturday morn till he gets my parts finished

Re: Project Twin
Seems triple toons are just triple trouble. I'm living it now as well. Delays after delays then I get started. I can imagine the problems and "adjustments" you are experiencing with the "Twins".
Good luck and I'll keep checking in.

Re: Project Twin
Didn't get my parts. Real bummer too because my next free day is July 4th, and not real sure I want to test it out on the holiday. Oh well no point in staying upset about it, it is what it is. After I've come this far there's no point in rushing it. Might as well get it right the first time.

Misery loves company it seems. As I have yet to take an actual pleasure cruise.
It'll get better, bro. Both boats are worthy.

Re: Project Twin
OK Ferg...I'll post some pics just for you
I believe I finally have my steering woes figured out, thank you all for the suggestions. As I stated in my other post, I actually got the boat wet! It floats! It runs...sorta. As expected, I ran in to some MORE issues:
I had one trim gauge not working, now both don't work.
One volt gauge reads about 2v low (already knew about that I guess).
Not propped correctly (more on this issue below...).
Low oil warning on port side motor (I'm guessing ((HOPING)) it's the sensor).
Mismatched lower units!
I had to replace one lower unit, and it appears I purchased one with a different gear ratio then the counter rotation motor! As it's propped now, the best I could get out of the port motor was about 4800RPM. The starboard motor would only turn about 4200RPM. I'm guessing when I purchased the replacement lower off of ebay, I got one with a lower gear ratio. Admittedly, I had done zero research on this. When I was searching for a unit, I didn't see any one listing the ratio so I foolishly assumed all these 25" Off Shore units were the same.
As far as the props, I figured the 23s would be a little steep for the boat, but I got them locally for a song so I figured it would be a good starting point since I had no props what so ever. And since I'm sure most of you are wondering, before cutting my day short with the oil buzzer, the best I saw was 46 MPH at the above RPMs. If I had to guess, I believe this toon set up correctly would run 60-65 MPH. That number is with both tanks full, most gear on board, and 2 adults. The rear of the tubes sit a little over half way out of the water at rest.
Time to decide where to go from here...

Re: Project Twin
wahoooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
You are getting closer! Sounds like fairly minor stuff (hopefully) Except for the lower unit of course I would think you want them matched to run efficiently....
46 is cooking even with the issues.
