So I had a mammoth work binge a couple of days ago. Unfortunately I was so busy that I forgot to take shots of my work. So I guess it didn't happen :biggrin2 Tell that to my aching and cramped muscles. It was cold going and I didn't want to slow down for anything. I sat in the 'bathtub' where the engine goes and final mounted the fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, fuel relay , ecu, cdi, and a bunch of wire harnesses. These mostly mounted to the firewall in front of the motor. Zippy the Chimp would have fit in that hole better.

I wanted to move the boat while the ground was still frozen in order to avoid the spring mud, but needed to complete all those jobs first. It went surprisingly well, so we pushed forward and moved it. I prolly should have put a bigger door on my shed huh?

Image

Still had an hour of daylight left although it had dropped to about 20 degrees. With the engine hanging on the hoist, I really wanted to get it set down somewhere for safety. Why not where it belongs? We pushed forward and dropped her in there.

Image

Just in time too. The next night dropped to twenty below. About 4 inches of snow last night. So there it sits. Lots left to do, but a mammoth step forward. No late launches for me this year. Somebody else can have that stinkin' trophy :fyou

Do you have a pic of engine bay without engine?

Sorry bro. I've been looking, without success. Know of any resources to bring a hard drive back from the dead?

Todd,

I'll call you tomorrow. There is a chance you can still pull info off that drive.

I have some small skills in this area. The drive is still running, data was corrupted and somehow my NTSF files got turned into RAW. There may be a software recovery available. Just too busy working and boat building.

Speaking of which, got the motor aligned and bolted down. It was nice to remove the hoist chain so I could build another of my world famous plastic tents.
Image

The knot on top of my head says that it would have been nice to remove the hoist beam as well. Kind of low headroom (hands and knees) but at least I have a bit of heat again. Until then, it had been about twenty degrees. Now it is a comfy 50 degrees in my little tent with 20 degree metal
Image

Finished 98% of fuel system. In-line fuel filter to left.
Image

Fuel regulator. Things are getting TIGHT in the bathtub, but it is actually fitting!
Image

Exhaust cutouts are IN and clamped! Woot. I still have to finish off the dump to free-air, but the worst is done. Somehow my planning actually worked. After measuring and guessing and guessing and measuring and calculating angles and heights and measuring some more, I had guestimated that I would clear the transom by 1" +/- 2". If it had been low, I would have been in deep trouble. Gonna clear by....an inch! How the heck did that happen?

Back at it. Gotta hurry tho. The plow piles are down to 6 feet and I don't have much time.
So here's the latest:
Hooked up CDI and ECU and tidied up harnesses. The ECU is buried so deeply that I couldn't get a decent shot of it.
Image

Did some dicey work on my swim platform. This series of shots is from underneath the platform looking straight up.
Image

Had to cut out some of the 'webbed' bracing (AKA 1/4" aluminum flat strap). Tough going with limited space and unlimited tools. Grinder, sawsall, roto-zip. Thank god for my oscillating tool.
Image

Then rebuild that bracing out of the way of the enormous hole that I accidentally drilled
Image

The last shot will make sense out of it. Selectable exhaust is all done but a little control wiring!
Image

Gonna hit it hard tomorrow too. Start cutting aluminum strut, braze it together with the Muggy-Weld and cover all that pretty work right back up.

Oh it is so on now.
Northwoods Engineering at its finest. Continuing in my tradition of 'tool-free teardown'.

Don't expect it to make much sense, but it will pretty soon. This counts as 'dry-boatin' doesn't it? :drink4
