If you are careful taking the wrap off, I bet it will go back on. I would try to make all the cuts in the stern (maybe just 1 or 2) and pull it forward to get it off. Then your taped joints will be in the back going down the road.
The red "Tuck" tape they use for vapor barriers would probably be better than duct tape but it is hard to beat mil spec (AKA 100 MPH) duct tape.

Thanks for the info guys. I ended up pulling it without any cover, and it really didn't get very dirty. Went through heavy rains a couple times, then miles and miles of mist/spray from wet roads. Got a little bit of bug splatter on the front of the boat and on some of the seats, but I was pleasantly surprised at how little road grime got in the boat.
